I'm using Avira Antivir.
I'll try to run the script with the anti virus turned off and report back.
Os is win7 64 Ultimate.

Hello Trix,
i got latest version yesterday and i can't get it working.
I have winXP and MM 3.2.0
tried to use puid generator on lots of files, using custom1, custom4, custom5.... nothing...
I cannot see the puid (if it was generated)

Maybe i make some error?
I Just:
- installed the script by doubleclicking on PUIDGenerator24.mmip, then click on "Install now"
- select 10 mosly famous songs like "what's up" by 4non blondes or "walk this way" by aerosmith
- selected menu Tools --> Scripts --> PUID Generator
- it asks me what field to use "Please enter field name"
- i write "custom1" and press OK (it askes for confirm and i click Yes)
- I can see in lower right bar the message "PUIDGenerato: processing track x of y" (it takes about 2-3 secs per track)
- then....? what should i see?

my custom1 field is empty for all the selected tracks.
I tried with over 200 famous songs and didn't got anything on custom1 neither custom4 neither custom5 :(

Internet connection works because if I ask it to self tag from WEB it connects and works only for tag filled songs.
Selftag from web works only if title and artist tag are compiled (like any other method) otherwise it doesn't catch the song.

Tried with a song with filename "Offspring - Pretty fly for a white guy.mp3" but without title and artist. Selected, used PUIDgenerator, then self tag from web... nothing worked.

Can you help me to understand what mistake i make? :D

Thank you very much
D.

I've no idea if this will make a difference, but have you tried "Custom1" instead of lowercase "custom1"?

sure... custom1 or Custom1 or CUSTOM1 i suppose it is not case sensitive...
is there any logfile (or similar) i can check to understand why it doesn't act?

There's no logfile produced by this script, but you could check out "%TEMP%\PUID.xml" to see what the last results were.

thank you,
I foud it and this is it's content:
"MusicDNS servers cannot be reached right now."

I can say that in my home computer (directly connected to internet) PUIDGenerator works.

In this (office) computer it doesn't work. Main difference is that here we are in a lan network and we connect to internet using a proxy; but i set MM to use it and this is why self tag from web works here too.

May be the connection method used by PUIDGenerator is different from MM settings?

thank you

Absolutely, yes. This script uses the MusicIP external application to generate the PUID, this script is merely an interface, so the MM settings will have no affect.

Trix,
I'm running into more mp3's that I'm unable to get a PUID on. I've found that they're returning an error of "unanalyzable". Talk about an uninformative error - nothing much on it @ musicbrainz. Anyhow, I was wondering if it would be possible to add a generic error in our PUID field. I have a big database & discovered that I'm continually trying to generate PUIDs on files every week that are simply wasting my time.

Really suprised this issue hasn't nudged those developers...

I used to populate the field with the error, but people complained that it meant you couldn't use the field for duplicate checking. Also, the most common reason for an error is that the PUID hasn't been created on the server yet, so trying again a week later may well yield a positive result.

Trixmoto:

As a future enhancement would it be possible to add an option to the Option Sheet for the user to select text to add as an error message??

a while ago i experimented with Jaikoz. This software also writes the PUID to a tag. The problem is that in MM i do not see that tag ( i can't recall how it was called in Jaikoz )
So a lot of my files already have this PUID but i do not see this field.
Does anyone have an idea how i can find this field and then copy it to a field visible in MM (like Custom1)?

In MM4 it should be possible for scripts to access other tags - at this point I will be updating my PUID scripts to take advantage of this.
