1415: Resizing window is slow and causes image distortion

Post by Pman »

If MM in window view and if you resize MM (border or corner) slowly or even quickly then images of the skin become distorted and take a while to catch up when resizing. It's especially slow when resizing via the corners. Has occured in previous few builds and on any skin.

Ive attached a picture (when resizing top border) to show how bad it has been:

Try to remove all 3rd party scripts/plugins (just to be sure it's not root of the problem).

Remove as in uninstall or remove as in disable?

Either way is the same as far as MM is concerned.

Sorry for getting back a bit late, but i've tested this on another computer with no 3rd party plugins/scripts and it has the same problem with any skin.

Hope someone can help because it's just horribly slow at times when resizing.

Bump, can anyone else reproduce this issue?
I have this issue on two machines, Vista and Win7 and I have slow resizing with both and skin elements taking ages to catch up.

I have the same problem. It seems to have started with rev 1415. If I shift back to 1414 it's OK.

The distortion extends to any movement of the window or resizing. Again 1414 is OK while 1415 and subsequent revisions have the problem. If I go back to 1414 the problem is not present.

Unfortunately it's still occuring in 1424, in fact it feels a bit worse since i last posted.
I was going to do a screencast of the issue but sometimes the screencast doesnt capture every frame so i've uploaded a video from my phone of how bad the issue is:

Same here.

For some reason, I think most users just accept it like it is. And don't consider it as a bug.
Which would explain why a lot of people "can't reproduce"

Yeh you might have a good point Dreadlau that people accept it as a norm. But on the other hand, im sure it wasn't this laggy when resizing on MM3 because before i had to reformat my computer, i had more scripts and things running on mm3 and things were a bit more silky smooth to resize than mm4 now.

I know for sure that the more scripts you use the laggier it gets if that helps.

I guess it's not that much of an issue, and i can live with it, but considering i and probably many others resize windows frequently, maybe you could consider a faster image rendering or something like that.

I see the same behavior with MediaMonkey 3. It seems that the difference between MediaMonkey and other programs is that MM redraws constantly whereas other programs don't redraw the application until user finishes resizing. The benefit of MediaMonkey's approach is that it's easier to see till where you'd want to resize, but it's a very jumpy experience.

Yeh I guess it's probably better to redraw constantly because if you redrew after resize then it would look broken. Maybe ive been using too much Linux lately and it has a more efficient way of resizing which gives you an overshadow of the dimension you want and then it snaps to that position.

Someone proposed a solution to the developers but it was more than 6 months ago.
And I haven't seen any news about it.
