control MM from a Windows 8 RT-based tablet?

Post by Darryl_Gittins »

I use MonkeyTunes from Melloware to controll MM from my Android and it's terrific. However, there isn't a client for Windows RT. Does anyone know if there's a way to control MM from a Windows 8 RT-based tablet?

Thanks!

Any DLNA compatible app could control MM, even without a need for any extra addon like MonkeyTunes.

Just have to enable the option at Options > Media sharing in MM.

May be I'm misunderstanding but I don't think that's right. DLNA Media sharing in MM just lets you stream music to devices, but I don't see how that makes it possible to control MM from a device.

My scenario: I have a Windows 7 computer running MM connected to my Audio system. I want to use my Windows RT tablet to control MM - to skip, pause, select etc songs without getting my lazy ass of the chair.

Maybe I'm wrong? I see no apps in the Windows 8 store that mention DNLA remote control.

Thanks, though!

Options > Media sharing: [x] Allow control of MediaMonkey player via uPnP/DLNA

Something like this would probably work: http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store ... 3c06f158e9

Thanks nohitter, that looked promising but it won't install on Windows 8 RT. WP7 only. I also tried 4u2stream on the Windows 8 store but it only pulls streams - so far I don't see how it can control MM. (http://4u2stream.4u2sites.com/)

Thnks for the suggestion though!

Apparently, storefront on the web does not exist… you can't browse it unless you have Windows 8 or Windows 8 RT installed. :-?

As an update Komodex is working on a native Windows 8 RT app that will be able to control MonkeyTunes thus allows you to make remote stations out of any Windows device or PC in your house to control your central MediaMonkey!

I had a chance to look in the Microsoft app store today. It's pretty slim pickings right now (android and iOS stores have a much larger selection) but there are a couple apps. The cheapest one I saw was called "4u2stream". It's $2.50 and while the reviews were not glowing, it certainly should be functional enough.

There's another app called "Link+" that has great reviews, but it's double the price ($4.99).

Btw, you can search the app store by opening up to it and then press the Windows key + Q. Took me quite a while to figure out how to search.

I tried 4u2stream to remote control MM but it really didn't work well. That's not what the app was designed to do and while you might get it working, it isn't a great experience. Nothing like using the iTunes remote or Melloware MonkeyTunes options on Android.

RTRemote for Windows RT was updated today and now works to control MM via MonkeyTunes! I had to uninstall and then reinstall to get the updated version.

Cheers!
