Touch interface: a NEW MediaMonkey experience

Post by charlieMOGUL »

Hi,

Thanks developers once again to open up MediaMonkey for a new OS - Android!

If you don't mind me suggesting - Could you please not port the interface and functionality one-on-one from MediaMonkey (for Windows) to MediaMonkey for Android ? Instead create a whole new visually and touch-friendly interface ?

The touch interface is so different than the usual Windows mouse and keyboard interface. People use their Android device primarily to listen to music and to browse their library VISUALLY, by touch. Think of Coverflow ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cover_Flow ), think of showing all the covers like for instance the 3 player does ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rockonnggl ).

I personally think that touch-friendly ease of use and eye-candy is way more important than technical feature x or y, or the ability to modify files on your Android device. Visually browsing through your library beats technical features.

Feedback, comments & suggestions more than appreciated MediaMonkey users!

i'm not sure what you are asking here. do you want a like for like MMW on android?

I think the way it's done now is perfect and adheres to the design principles of Android 4+ ?
I'd rather that didn't change, as it currently feels like a native android 4+ app

Definitely, MMA isn't supposed to become another MMW - it's simply for different devices. So, although we plan to add many new features, it still should be an easy to use Android app.

So I wasn't the only one confused. The only thing I see is Coverflow, which is really neat, but I never use it on devices that have this.

Sorry about not making myself clear and creating confusion.

Android has a touch-based interface, as opposed to Windows, where you use a mouse and keyboard.
Developers sometimes port an application from Windows to Android without factoring in the different requirements for a touch-based interface.

I wanted to ask the developers to create a different interface for Android instead of copying the current interface that it has for Windows.

Try for example Google's Play Music app when holding your Android tablet or phone horizontal, and select 'Recent'. The browsing of tracks is "finger-and-eye-friendly". It is much easier to browse through your music library with left and right gestures (like Coverflow or similar) than scrolling through 'text-only' lists up and down.

Googlle player sucks, its only used alot because its added to devices as androids system player, and mma has a sliding way to view the playlists or artists and other sections jusr slide image to left it should drag next menu from right side.

I have to ask the obvious here. Have you even looked at the MM for Android beta?

I wondered the same. Although now coverflow like feature is present it is finger friendly.

.../me crawls under a rock, hiding in shame :o

I did try the beta, and upon giving it a good spin it's very 'finger-friendly'. I'm stilly trying to suggest a Coverflow implementation though  Just because I think it's still one of the easiest ways to browse to your music collection, by covers instead of text/titles.
