It's not really necessary. I think it's just something you would use if early after you do a first scan of a very small size collection. it reached at least 1mb. Otherwise, no point in backing up because still too small to matter (that's my guess, anyway) .
The only thing necessary for "meta data" backup restoration is the backup file.
