Not filling in artist, track etc when ripping

Post by PaulTee »

I am assuming that when ripping a CD it will automatically use information on the CD to fill in artist, track name etc.

If that is the case it does not do it for me. It shows unknown arts etc. Any help in sorting this greatly appreciated.

Which Build (Help > About) of MediaMonkey are you using and does this happen for certain CDs or all CDs?

MediaMonkey will lookup CD info by default for commercial CD's, you can also manually lookup from CD drive Context Menu.

The manual lookup also failed? What settings are you using?

Does Auto-Tag itself also fail for files already on your PC?

Sorry for the late reply. Unsure whether auto-tag fails - certainly, when ripped a CD it shows as unknown artist, just shows track 1, track 2.Rip using MS Media Player and it correctly identifies all the info. Have therefore ripped using MS but should not be having to do it that way.

Hi Paul,

Sometimes I see this if the "Lookup Audio CD Metadata" dialogue takes longer than the "RIP CD / Convert Files" dialogue.

I normally get around this by closing the Convert Files dialogue and then re-open with CTRL+Shift+R.

Since my "Destination" is set to D:\Downloads\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Title> the "New Path" confirms that this is working (or not).

Hope this helps.

Many thanks for all your suggestions. Just connected an external CD drive to the laptop and ripped a couple of CDs and no problem, so seems to be a CD drive problem.

Will post a new question but on the laptop it shows album title and also artist however, transferred to Android phone and it shows album title but unknown artist - there are one or two exceptions. Just loaded Pulsar for Android and same thing.

Check in MM5 if Album Artist is correctly entered.

Hi Paul,

On the laptop, check to see if both Artist and Album Artist fields are populated for each track. Normally these are the same unless the album is some sort of collaboration / compilation etc.

In the case of a compilation you will find it best to set the Album Artist consistently e.g. Various.

This will "group" the tracks together and makes things easier e.g. Artwork, Album Volume.

I am not certain about the Pulsar music player App for Android since I personally use Media Monkey Android (MMA 2.0.0.1057).

Hi,
Hmmm, I wonder if you open track properties did MMA show same info as MM5 or something is missing. I mean on track that shows unknown.
Also it could be interesting to see if File dates are same as on MM5 or Date of last sync.
