Re: Gap between songs

Post by stuiji »

Hi,

Inserting and configuring a gap between songs in MUSIC still doesn't work for me with any of the 3 output plugins. It would make a huge difference if it did, was a game-changer for enjoying my tunes in MM3&4 with that old Tango Dj plugin.

Setup is:
1) 5.0.4.2690
2) Output - MediaMonkey DirectSound (in WASAPI output and waveOut the relevant menu features are greyed out.)
3) almost all files are flac but its the same for mp3 and ogg files too
4) all are on local ssd
5) doesn't work whether "Silence Removal" box is ticked or not.

Any suggestions or advice welcome.

Cheers

Hi,
Upgrade to MM5.1 as we improved things by allowing users to set gap/crossfade and few other settings from output plugins to Tools -> Options -> Player -> Playback rules.

If things still do not work please attach screenshot in next reply.

Thanks Lowlander. Alas no difference, no change in gap between tracks, flac, mp3 or ogg. I've got the setting maxed at 10sec

The settings are no longer greyed out for WASAPI output but remain so for waveOut.

Any ideas?

Hi,
Wave out is not our plugin and can't use those features only Direct sound and WASAPI can.

Note WaveOut plugin is really outdated one and basically should be used for testing only and if none of works, which happen on non standard Windows System installations or where there is some sort of corruption or conflicts on OS level with either Windows itself or with Sound card drivers or both.

EDIT: WaveOut Plugin is based on 25+ years tech.

Thanks Peke for explaining about the waveOut plugin.

Just to clarify, unfortunately the gap feature still doesn't work for me with the other two output plugins? Are there any other settings that might be interfering with this gap setting?

Hi,
Yes, sometimes incorrect sound card driver can cause issues with multi layer sound buffer, but it is very rare. I suspect on some setting that is set wrong.

Maybe if we go into more details I can try to help you more directly thru Support Ticket

I'll be very interested to hear the results of this.

I haven't used that feature much or at all, so I tried it out just now, and whatever settings I put in Playback rules, "music" seem to have no effect whatsoever on how two tracks join together. 10 second gap sounds the same as 10 second overlap, and crossfade is not working either.

This was using Wasapi. Then I tried Direct sound, and it did provide a gap between the tracks. However, I could not get any detectable crossfade to work, even with a 10 second overlap.
Using 5.1 LATEST alpha or beta build on Windows 10, HP laptop, managing 13k tracks

HI,
It is not problem with Settings but actually with tracks quality itself.
Here is the MM settings I used:
Image

Here is the result crossfade test playing some 30s of each track start/end+crossfade (Jump to 05:41 if you do not like first set of music for testing):

FYI These are example lists I was talking about that can go for few 2-3k with sets around 15-30min and switch genre or tempo which shuffle ON in 5.1 mess up.

EDIT: Also crossfade success really depends on Silence detector which revision is scheduled for MM5.2 in https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19991
