What am I missing with the Media Monkey

What am I missing with the Media Monkey
  • 1. There is no overview of which songs were skipped with an error during “Auto Tag”. After MMW auto-tagged all songs, some songs “failed” When I go to tag, it is nowhere visible which songs “failed”.
  • 2. The parent playlist does not display the songs in the child playlists. I know there is a plugin for this that works on a donation basis. But for me it is part of the basic equipment.
  • 3. There is no playlist manager that shows in which playlist a song is sorted.
  • 4. The menu when right clicking on a song should have minimal lag.
  • 5. About 500 songs not found when syncing to Spotify. These are output to a text file which is of no use to me. Why an external file when I'm working with MMW, everything should stay inside the program. A list would have to be created within MMW for this. Alternatively, a column with the corresponding note could also be created.
  • 6. I use the list of duplicate titles & artists regularly because I only want each song once. I don't collect albums. Unfortunately, MMW often renames songs by appending (2). These will then not appear in the Duplicate Songs & Artists list. MMW should rather ask me if a song should be overwritten instead of appending (2) or (3) on its own.
  • 7. In front of the artist is the arrow to go to Google or Discogs. I use this one often. The arrow in front of the genre should rather lead to songs with the same genre. A click on it and it shows e.g. all songs with soul.
  • 8. I have an auto-playlist with songs that are missing the day, release year, etc. If I change this information, the entry disappears from the list immediately. I have no way to move the song to a playlist. A delay of 2 seconds would be useful here.

I did not expect anything else.

I've reported problems so many times, but rarely received an answer. This time again.

Presumably my reported errors affect too few people or I am ignored here in the forum.
If there are certain features in MMW, they should work. But they don't do that satisfactorily. I realize that there are several pages of errors in the program. Nevertheless, one should at least react to it.
But maybe it's also because we Germans use a translator.

This seems like a great and necessary feature request to me. It could also be in the form of a "files to edit" listing of failed autotags.
  • 2. The parent playlist does not display the songs in the child playlists. I know there is a plugin for this that works on a donation basis. But for me it is part of the basic equipment.
We have a button to display folder contents recursively, why can't we have a request for a similar button to display playlist contents recursively??
  • 3. There is no playlist manager that shows in which playlist a song is sorted.
There is the addon "Highlight playlist tracks" which is helpful, in that it highlights all tracks which are part of the selected playlist, and thus by not highlighting the rest, tells you that the track you are looking at is not in there. There is also right-click, properties, classification, which shows you all the playlists associated with the selected track. Problem is, there does not seem to be any consensus about how a full playlist manager should work, and not too many requests for it
  • 4. The menu when right clicking on a song should have minimal lag.
Mine is instantaneous on a 13000 tracks database on an older I5 laptop??

I have nothing to add as I don't use spotify

Windows does this when adding files with same name to same folder. Using different sub-folders might avoid this issue. Not sure why this affects files to edit as it looks for duplicate titles as opposed to duplicate filenames

Could solve this by adding the song to the desired alternate playlist first, then edit the tag? Songs do not "Move" to playlists, they are merely referenced there.

Thanks for the answer,
I like to sync with Spotify to find new or similar songs. I have already found many songs that would otherwise have remained hidden.
I would still wish that I could load the original date at the auto tag. I don't need the release year of the CD because I only collect songs and want to know when they were released. With that I mean the master release.

Otherwise, I think it's a pity that no moderator has voiced his opinion on my list.

some thoughts from another (very long time) user

i have no idea why anybody would rely on automatic tagging. it's bound to go wrong. do it yourself
  • 2. The parent playlist does not display the songs in the child playlists. I know there is a plugin for this that works on a donation basis. But for me it is part of the basic equipment.
i like it this way. build autoplaylists if you want parents to show songs of the children.
  • 3. There is no playlist manager that shows in which playlist a song is sorted.
incorrct as per @Rob_S
  • 4. The menu when right clicking on a song should have minimal lag.
no lag on mine. upgrade your computer
  • 8. I have an auto-playlist with songs that are missing the day, release year, etc. If I change this information, the entry disappears from the list immediately. I have no way to move the song to a playlist. A delay of 2 seconds would be useful here.
well done you have discovered the autoplaylist working very efficiently
