MMW5 playing mp3 files

MMW5 playing mp3 files
Hi,
I have recently downloaded MMW5 Trial version and want to upgrade to the Gold version.
This was working briefly but, for other reasons, I needed to move the music library files to a different directory. Since then I cannot get it to play mp3 music (but wav files are ok). I have deleted the MMW5 installation & then reloaded a new copy again from the website but to no avail.
I have checked the file name extensions etc and they are all correct, plus the audio is output correctly with WMP & VLC to speakers and BT headphones, thus showing that the files themselves are correct.
Within MMW5 the files all show correctly in the listings and are not greyed out. If one selects a track, the in-built player shows that the audio is being played (the time bar shows progression through the track) but there is no output at all (total silence). I have looked at the MM topics & suggestions and cannot see anything I have done that is incorrect especially as the player works OK with WAV files (i.e. sound is output as expected).
In the plugins directory, I can see: in_wav.dll, in_wmp3.dll & out_wav.dll. If the in_wav.dll file is removed temporarily the sound is no longer output but works correctly again if this dll is replaced. Doing the same with the in_wmp3.dll does nothing.
So:
1) is this behaviour because the App is a trial version, and the output of mp3 files is disabled, and therefore would be ok with the Gold version or should this give a music output with mp3 music anyway ?
I am reluctant to purchase the Gold version in case there are other problems such as it possibly being incompatible with the latest version of Win10 etc.
2) a separate question - in order to avoid another posting, in the gold version can one select different views when in say the "Genre" (left pane) and Centre pane of Artist (say Brian May) and say Album "Another World". Currently (as far as I can find) it only shows the Icons with a large picture or coloured square with text at the bottom, so can one just select a view mode of the text only so that one can see more tracks listed within the screen view to make searching easier and quicker ?
Thanking you in advance.

1. Which Build (Help > About) of MediaMonkey are you using and do MP3 files fail to play when played from File Explorer with MediaMonkey?
Related: https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... corrupted/
2. You can choose how files are displayed.

Re: MMW5 playing mp3 files
The build is: 5.0.4.2692
The files play correctly from file manager using Windows Media Player & VLC media player
Trying to play any mp3 music using MMW5 via windows file explorer results in the file being played (if I click the play button off & on again, but not directly) but no sound is output, i.e. it is unchanged from before.
But it does play directly if I select a wav file & play using MMW5.
The mp3 music is mainly a mixture of 128k to 192kbps with a few 256kbps - VBR & CBR
Having tried the wav file & then going back to a mp3 file it pop'd up an error message that I havn't seen before:
{Current audio configuration cannot play 44100Hz 2 channels. Verify that your sound drivers are properly installed or try to change/ re-configure the output again}.
Checking the output setup again it shows:
- mp3 player is: mp3 Player v2.0 using in_wmp3.dll
- audio player is: monkey's audio player 6.29 using file in_ape.dll
I have tried the 3 listed output files, these being: out_mmds.dll, out_waspi.dll & out_wav.dll
The sound drivers seem to be correctly installed since sound is produced with wav music, and I cannot see anything else to change or re-configure.
So the only difference seems to be that MMW5 is using a different audio player from WMP & other players that play correctly ?

I have tried builds 2814 & 2817 but unfortunately neither will give a sound output with mp3 files.
Thankyou for trying

Re: MMW5 playing mp3 files
Hi,
This is strange that some formats do play and some do not. Can you try these settings in MM and on system (see image below, even your active sound card name differs than mine). Also make sure that WASAPI is set to default and that in both MM and Sound card System exclusive access is disabled.

Can you also copy/paste your system info like one in Image I added for my PC (you can find About System below sound settings)?

Re: MMW5 playing mp3 files
Hi,
In answer to the last postings:
The Win info is as follows:
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 22H2
Installed on 04/05/2021
OS build 19045.3448
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19044.1000.0
I have created an image of the system info that you requested but having searched MM5 on the internet & tried various approaches I have been unable to post it on this forum. This has consumed several hours & I have now given up.
The info of each page you have highlighted in your last post is:
- Windows spec - as above.
- Sound Output: Speakers (High Definition Audio Device), Master volume 100%, nothing else relevant.
- Sound Control Panel: Playback: Speakers (High Def Audio Device, Default Device, selected with green tick).
- Properties: General: Speakers - device working properly; Driver Microsoft ver 10.0.19041.264.
- Properties: Advanced: tried all settings from min to max (24bit, 192000Hz (Studio Quality)); Also "Exclusive Mode" is OFF.
- For MM, WASAPI is set to default & exclusive access is again disabled.
** With all the variations tried the behaviour was unchanged.**
The fact that the wav files work (produces a sound output) & the mp3 files don't must be down to different dlls being used for each of them as listed in the MM5 - Options - Player - Audio Outputs(Plug-ins). The player does not show any attempt at playing if the wav dll is used for a mp3 music file, whereas the use of either of the other 2 dlls will play a mp3 music file but with no sound output. So one cannot play wav & mp3 music in the same music collection ?
-----------------------------------
One aspect that I have now seen is that system32\msdmo,dll is now reporting an error status of: 0xc000012f and this seems to be exclusively used by Decoder: Decode.exe. by MM. I cannot seem to download & install a new version of msdmo.dll as windows is preventing this, nor can I download & install a new version of Decode.exe.
In order to try to make progress with this I have downloaded a version of MM4, and this has an identical behaviour to MM5 regarding the playback of mp3 music.
This rather odd since the versions of these files must be different ?
When MM4 or MM5 is deleted using the MM uninstaller could there be files still left in the system that just get reused in a new installation even if one is corrupt ?
I am now out of ideas as to achieve any audio output with mp3 music using MM.

Re: MMW5 playing mp3 files
Hi,
Strange thing I see is "Microsoft ver 10.0.19041.264." which stands fro MS generic sound driver, so no manufacturers features. Strange.
Can you please paste value from these steps Right click on Start -> Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers-> High definition Audio device -> Properties (right click) -> Details Tab -> Hardware ID -> Right on Second one -> Copy and then Paste it here in reply. I am curious what hardware it uses and if there is newer driver.

Re: MMW5 playing mp3 files
Hi,
Ignore Driver date and windows complaining.
Try installing these https://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/via_audio_mb_8.zip and/or https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/E ... _64bit.zip
I suspect First one, but one of these two should work.
EDIT: You should get Sound card control panel if you enter "Control Panel" in Address bar of file explorer and select large/small icons.

Re: MMW5 playing mp3 files
Hi,
Thankyou for your suggestions & have loaded both the sound drivers. Unfortunately neither have worked, with the behaviour unchanged.
I have now uninstalled MMW5 & reinstalled it again, selecting the new files options rather than "use existing files". Unsurprisingly the behaviour is still unchanged.
However when I open the reloaded app I find it fully populated with all the previous library & with the view of the last music file I was trying to play ! But if the uninstall program had fully removed ALL the MMW5 files then I would not see this information. Also when I reinstall MMW5 it would not ask me to use new or old files !
So if there are MMW5 files still present after using the MM5 uninstaller, it is possible that there are other files still present in the MM5 installation directory that could be responsible for the current behaviour ?
I have been through the computer (after using the uninstaller) locating all the remaining MM5 files I could find & deleting them (quite a few). I then installed ver 5.0.4.2690 & reinstalled the music library, but it still gives no sound output.
When doing the search I came across an error log for MM & this gave:
Critical_MediaMonkey (non_13e8fc15c6577bec4fa2cd756f9719648fd8ca_64dcfeba_15715295-6fea-46de-bac2-d2fafc2bbce5

I have no idea what these 3 messages mean but I am assuming that this won't help much.
I think we have exhausted trying to find the problem with MM5, and hence I think I will have to find another App to manage & play my music from. Shame really because the MS music player & VLC don't give the flexibility that MM does.
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
Strange, I would have bet that it will work. Can you please open support Ticket, so that we can go into more details. You really got me interested in resolving this.
Can you please also Paste CPU and Motherboard info Images (See my signature on how to do it) from CPU-Z I am curious what is going on.
