Syncing not applying new folder structure [#19986]
Hi, I'm experiencing some weirdness when syncing my Sony nw-zx700 walkman over WiFi with the Android MM app.
The settings I have chosen (on MMW on my PC) are 'Delete other files and playlists from Walkman': All Other Media FIles'
and 'Enforce use of the sync mask for files already on walkman'
(And the sync location is set to \MUSIC\<Path:3> )
When I used to sync from Windows over USB, this would just mean that any changes in my library file structure from my PC were replicated on my walkman (e.g. if I renamed a folder, or took files out of one folder and put them in a new one).
However I am finding on WiFi that this no longer works: whilst any new or altered files always get synced,
the sync doesn't take account of altered folder structures... so for instance, if I take files out of one folder and put them in a new one, I end up with the new folder synced onto my walkman, but the old folder is still there too.
Or if I merely rename a folder, this isn't reflect on my walkman.
The only way to enforce changes such as these seems to be to manually delete the folders on my walkman.
Is this expected behaviour? I am pretty sure USB sync wasn't like this...

Re: Syncing not applying new folder structure
Hi,
It is sort of expected as if you have 20k of tracks it can stress device and strain battery.
Anyway I added https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19986 so that we can investigate what can be improved.

Re: Syncing not applying new folder structure
I see - but I'm still gonna change my folders anyway! Indeed, it's precisely BECAUSE I have 32398 files in my library that I sometimes have to make big folder changes, so I can still find things and have them organised in the best way
And if I then have to manually delete them off the SD card in my Walkman and force a resync that way, we have not caused any less stress...?

Hi,
Till we investigate further in a bug. You can try workaround by removing SDCard and Sync on PC directly.
Simple USB Card Reader are cheap investment including those with 3.1 speeds and they are proven to be much faster than plain Device to PC USB connection.
At least till we analyze and fix the bug.

Re: Syncing not applying new folder structure [#19986]
feline1,
Would you consider using a sync mask that's based on track metadata (rather that path structure) for synchronization? That should also solve this problem.
Thanks!

Re: Syncing not applying new folder structure [#19986]
Certainly I would consider that - I don't know how to do it, though
Re: Syncing not applying new folder structure [#19986]
Hi,
You can for example use "\Music\<Title>\<Title> - <Artist>" that is based on Title. use Configure to correct mask and in preview you would see the result of mask.

Re: Syncing not applying new folder structure [#19986]
Oh see what you're getting at.
Would that preserve my folder structure though?

I also prefer folder-based syncing From MM4 to MMA.
This has been asked before, and yes it can be done!

That's not the aspect that isn't working for me, though.joshb wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2023 7:07 pm I also prefer folder-based syncing From MM4 to MMA.

MMW is taking everything off my music library folder structure and putting it on my Walkman's SD card, absolutely fine - but if that folder structure changes, it just adds the new one, but doesn't delete the old one.
Re: Syncing not applying new folder structure [#19986]
I haven't tested this issue, but is the option to 'Delete other files and playlists' (in MMA the setting is 'Delete from the device: Unselected server files/all files) enabled?
Thanks!

Re: Syncing not applying new folder structure [#19986]
I tried doing this today (i.e. instead of syncing my Walkman over WiFi using MMA, I took the microSD card out and plugged it in directly to my PC using an USB3.1 card reader stick).Peke wrote: ↑Sun Apr 30, 2023 3:29 pm Hi,

Whilst it does appear to be noticeable speedier that way,
it didn't seem to solve any of the problems - bug https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=20732 still happened.
(At least it made it quicker to manually select and delete about 3700 genre-less files from the SD card - but then MMW just started merrily putting them all back again when I synced! )
Re: Syncing not applying new folder structure [#19986]
fyi, bug #20732 (unknown genres syncing when they shouldn't) is fixed in the _upcoming_ MMW 2024 build (3006+).
