Laborious tagging within MM5 (compared to MM4) [#20806]
Hi forum,
2,5 years after the release of MM5 (and disappointing first steps) I've decided to switch from MM4 to MM5 now finally. But I'm still struggling with inefficient handling of the "new" software in some cases.
One annoying example:
In MM4 it was possible to type in the first few characters of the Genre tag, until it matched the correct Genre (e.g. "Eu" => auto-fills to "Eurodance"). After that match you were instantly able to press TAB to jump (right hand) to the next tag in the same song. So you were very fast for tagging the whole song. Now MM5 forces a pulldown even if there is only one proposal. You need much more mouse clicks or keyboard actions to come into the next tag field.
Besides that I register two malfunctions:
1.) It's no longer possible to jump by TAB to the "rating" tag. This was still possible in MM4 and slows down the input in MM5 unnecessarily.
2.) Sometimes if I start e.g. to type in "House" in Genre tag, the character "H" opens the Help pulldown in the menu list, instead of filling the Genre text. But I do NOT press the Alt-key concurrently... Additional example: Typing in "Trance" can lead to "Tools > Rip Audio CD" action.
Bug or feature?
Thanks for any help!
Thomas

0&1) Is this in the Properties? I'm not able to reproduce on the latest 2024 build.
2) Which Build (Help > About) are you using? Does the same happen with a different keyboard?

Re: Laborious tagging within MM5 (compared to MM4)
Oh, as I see, you are preparing a new MM2024 version... What happens with my 5.x license if I update to 2024.0.0.3005 Beta? Is this still valid?
Anyway it will make a lot of sense first to install the next update before we continue personell bug fixing of my request. Can you estimate when MM2024 will be fully released (not as beta)?

Re: Laborious tagging within MM5 (compared to MM4)
I can confirm in List view it does not tab into the rating field in latest beta of 2024.
I do seem to be able to tab to other fields in order of my view, after autocomplete....

I can reproduce tab skipping Rating in List View: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=20806

Re: Laborious tagging within MM5 (compared to MM4) [#20806]
Skipping by tab seems now to be fixed in MM 2024.0.0.3018.
Thank you very much!!
But would it be possible to set rating by Alt+1...5 (1...5 stars) for in-line-editing even while cursor is within the rating field?

Re: Laborious tagging within MM5 (compared to MM4) [#20806]
That seems to work if you have it set as Hotkey.

Re: Laborious tagging within MM5 (compared to MM4) [#20806]
Doesn't unfortunately work on my system although I already have had these hotkeys...
You can recognize the receiving of star rating in the player layout (if you have to configured showing the rating there): The player shows stars that have been set by Alt+1...5 but not the rating tag in line. And it doesn't save the rating either.

It's working fine here, what View are you using, in what node in the Media Tree?

It happens in standard "List" view both in all "music" nodes and in AutoPlayLists.

Still unable to reproduce, please capture this in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643

Re: Laborious tagging within MM5 (compared to MM4) [#20806]
Exactly!s this when you Tab into the Ratings field?
As described in 0020806.
Behaviour is fixed now with 3019 as described in the ticket, but I have the same problem on opening the main menu after entering Alt+1...5 (which seems to be fixed in unreleased 3020).
