Crash when entering specific search term [Debug build only #21078]

Post by tbm72 »

Every time I search for an album I own with the specific word "Structures" in the title I get this crash that I've never seen before. Tried rebooting and it happens every time I start entering the word in the search box (I only have to enter the word as far as "Structu" when it crashes):

Never mind, I tried rebuilding the database using File>Manage database and it seems to have fixed it.

Interestingly I did try googling that error message though and only got 1 result:

Actually no, it's come back - that search term is now fine but I just randomly started entering search words into the box and got the crash again:

Reverted back to build 3034 and doesn't seem to happen on that version.

Just FYI, I tried quite a few existing and non-existing search terms in 3035, and I cant so far get it to crash.

More info about which view you are searching, which search box, and which layout, and all your search options.

ie are you including any custom fields in the search??

I was using the magnifying glass search box at the top right of the window (global search?) with the following options set:

(Also the boxes 'Custom 6' to 'Custom 10' which are out of view in the screenshot are ticked). So the only ones unticked are Lyrics, Original Album, Original Lyricist, Publisher, Encoder, Copyright. Can't recall now if there's a reason I haven't ticked those?

I was searching the Music node (List By Album view) and had the column filter and status bar visible ticked under 'View Elements'.

The first search term I tried was the word "Structures" but then I tried other random words that came into my head. The search term 'monkey' also made it crash with the same error. At that point I rolled back to 3034 build and couldn't get any search terms to make it crash again so presumed it was something in 3035 that caused it. I might install 3035 again in a minute and see if I can get it to crash again.

Thought I'd give 3035 another try just in case but sure enough after entering a few random search terms I got another crash. Previous words that caused a crash were fine ("structures" and "monkey") but I tried random things like artist names I know I have in my library and as soon as I started typing "stones" it got as far as "st" and then gave this crash:

So will go back to 3034 for now.

I have never changed the Search options in MM.
The only difference i have, is that you have "Albums" ticked on. While all the other settings are exactly the same.
Have also tested it, with your search terms, and about 50others searches, but i cannot replicate this issue.

I've tried again installing 3035 again and within about 10 search random search terms I get the same error and crash again.

Don't know if it makes a difference but it's a portable install. I also changed to default skin, cleared search history, rebuilt database but still the error comes back within the first few search terms (just picking any random search word or artist/album that I know might be in my library).

As soon as I roll back to 3034 the crashes go away so something in 3035 definitely seems to be causing it and the crashes are the same every time with just a different variable.

Was able to replicate:

These 3 points is a must ->
I was searching the 1. Music node 2. (List By Album view) and had the3. column filter and status bar visible ticked under 'View Elements'.

Could you try non-debug version of the last build? Are you able to reproduce these crashes there?

I'll give it a try - is it OK to install non-debug over debug, i.e. will it cause any issues or will I lose any settings?

There's no issue with installing the non-debug build on top of the debug build (settings will be retained).

Thanks!
