DLNA loud

Post by svillardi »

Hi,

Just got a new Denon receiver and after a little poking around, I can stream MM5 to the HEOS application on the receiver.

Problem is, I have to keep the MM5 volume very low (around 10%) otherwise my speakers start getting distorted. I'm additionally afraid that if I change the source accidentally, I'm going to blow them out.

When I play MM5 on Windows speakers, I keep the volume up much higher and control the volume on the Logitech speakers.

Any way to set the output level? I see a checkbox to "Level volume when sharing audio", but I don't know what dB to set it at or if that is what I am actually looking for.

Thanks!

Volume Leveling only is needed if the different files play at different volumes. 89dB is the recommendation, up to 95dB generally has no noticeable sound defects on playback.

Which Build (Help > About) of MediaMonkey are you using?

No matter what I set that dB to, the volume output is the same. When I change the volume, should the receiver's volume counter ("knob") go up as well? It's really cool that I can turn the volume up from MM on the receiver, but is that expected? Do I need to change a setting on the receiver to lower the volume? Like some kind of "line out" level?

Can you please try the latest MediaMonkey 2024 beta and see if that improves volume control for you?

In other scenarios (ie. not MediaMonkey DLNA playback) does the Denon overpower the speakers at high volumes? Or can you basically turn it all the way up and not have any distortions?

Just noticed something -- I'm using a multi-channel stereo setting on the receiver. I think this is what is boosting the sound.
When I go "direct", "pure direct" or "stereo", the sound is as I expected it to be.

Any other thoughts or suggestions as well?

Hi,
It is possibly a settings issue on your device multichannel upscaling from stereo settings that can do that.

It is worth to experiment and do trial and error.
