Why only some album art showing? [Corrupted thumbnails: #21258]

Re: Why only some album art showing?
It could, MediaMonkey will recreate what it needs, so there's no real harm in deleting these temp folders.

Re: Why only some album art showing?
I renamed the Thumbs folder, and all that has happened is I now have even fewer - though not zero - albums showing cover art.Rob_S wrote: ↑Sun Oct 06, 2024 12:23 pm Lowlander, my normal 2024 RC3 installation also does not find such a folder as above
I do have the following
AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey5\Thumbs - which contains hundreds of thumbnails
and
AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey5\ArtistImages - which contains a lesser number of artist images.
Would clearing either of the above help at all?
I believe there used to be some thumbnails kept in temp folder, but no longer?
How can I get MM to show the cover art for every album that has art (in my case, almost all of them)
Re: Why only some album art showing?
We're unable to reproduce this. For us Artworks load, even after removing Thumbs (which is the correct folder on 2024).
To confirm, the files that fail to show Artwork, do show Artwork in Properties and do play?
Can you please capture the failure to load Artworks in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643

I am also curious was the arts linked or stored in tags?

Re: Why only some album art showing?
For the handful of albums where art is showing, they all seemed to be stored in tag only. However, there are plenty of albums where the art is stored in tag and the images aren't showing, and even if I take an album where the artwork is stored in the folder and get MM to store the art in the tag also, it still doesn't show in the grid view.
Re: Why only some album art showing?
Hi,
Here is what you can do to test.
1. In Windows explorer Copy one of files that do not show art to folder not in MM library eg. like "c:\TAGTEST\"
2. Start MM and use Folders Browser to navigate to "c:\TAGTEST\"
3. Right click on Copied track -> Properties
4. Go to Artwork Tab and see if there is Album art then click Cancel.
Let us know the result.

Re: Why only some album art showing?
Well, for files where the artwork is listed as stored in the folder, then copying just the file results in no artwork. But if I pick a file which has the artwork stored in the tag, then the artwork shows correctly for the file in the new folder. But there is no artwork showing in the gridview for that file in its original location.
And just to reiterate, as I showed in my first post, if I then select that track or the album itself, the artwork does show in the selected pane.

Re: Why only some album art showing?
I wonder whether deleting the library and doing a re-scan would help? Or are the images stored in a separate DB?
Re: Why only some album art showing?
I am not sure, brief analyze showed original artwork can't be read/served to MM renterer.nickaelliott wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 4:43 am I wonder whether deleting the library and doing a re-scan would help? Or are the images stored in a separate DB?
You can rename MM5.DB to 1MM5.DB and MM will create new DB. then scan folders again. If it proves no help problem is elsewhere. Do you have hidden files show enabled?
That sound like that many many files have linked AA as first image and it is non accessible or corrupted, so MM show default no AA image while selected panel and properties read AA from tags.nickaelliott wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2024 4:01 am Well, for files where the artwork is listed as stored in the folder, then copying just the file results in no artwork. I am following ticket and curious to see what is the root cause and how that can improve MM.

Re: Why only some album art showing?
I am happy to report that renaming the DB and doing a rescan has fixed this, and now of the albums which have art, all but one are showing correctly.
Would you be interested in seeing the previous version of my DB, for troubleshooting?
Many thanks!

To close the loop on this issue:
It can occur when thumbnails get corrupted. The long term fix is described here: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=21258
The short term workarounds are either:
1) Delete all thumbnails ( MediaMonkey will regenerate them). They're located at:
C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey5\Thumbs
OR
Portable Directory\MediaMonkey\Portable\Thumbs\
2) Clean install / New database

Apologies for the late reply.
In case it is any use, I have attached a link to my DB in the support ticket. But it seems you have got to the bottom of the problem anyway.
Thanks for taking the time to investigate, and for MM in general!
Nick
