Successfully running MM5 in Wine Ubuntu Linux

Post by hermes3por3 »

I've just installed MM5 5.0.0.2089 in the same wine prefix I have MM4 and amazingly, it works! :D

I am running kubuntu 17.10, wine 3.2, and the imitated windows version is XP. To install MM4 I followed the guide found in http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... y_.2B_Wine.

It throws some errors at the beginning, but then imports settings, playlists, and DB, and everything seems to run pretty slick. The "All tracks" node scrolls smoothly with 60K+ tracks.

I am particularly happy that the interface is no longer drawn with the dreadful unskinned windows widgets, since skinned MM4 didn't work well in wine.

So far I've just found that the tray icon does not show up, and closing the window closes the program instead of just closing it to tray (when such option is checked). Also, every time the player starts a new track the window focus goes to MediaMonkey.

That's a wonderful start so far!

Sounds great, I wouldn't expect MM5 to be able to run in Wine. :-)

That is nice to hear. I tried that a more than a few months ago and did not have any success.

Still waiting for the native Linux version though :D

Success here too with MM5 5.0.0.2089:
Under Manjaro XFCE inside a default wine prefix. MAD-Plugin installed.
4 errors occur at startup. 4 times clicking "OK" (and not sending via internet as this does'nt help anyone at the moment I guess..).
Looks great, is responsive and works fine.
Only exception so far: Volume in the player does not work. (I use the OS volume instead)
MM5 (2606)and MM4 (1919) installed and running well on:
Debian 11 KDE, EndeavourOS KDE (wine 7.4 via playonlinux), Win10 64bit

The latest version so far (5.0.0.2117) now shows the tray icon with the right-click context menu. Also it doesn't steal the focus at every new track. Lovley.

Successfully installed MediaMonkey 5 in a wine bottle under openSUSE Tumbleweed.
Most functions seem to work as expected, but I get a few crashes in between.
Not running: SQL editor, Custom nodes.

- MediaMonkey 5.0.0.2186
- Wine 4.11
- openSUSE Tumbleweed 20190708

Anyone has an idea, if MediaMonkey 5 could run with .Net core on Linux?

Hi,
.net is not needed as MM5 runs on Chromium.

I'm having issues running in Wine, but I think that's an issue with Wine rather than MM. That said, does anyone know the timeline for when native Linux would be available to test? Even if supremely buggy, I'd love to just get MM installed properly.

Hi,
Other platforms are planned for development after MM5 stable for Windows is released.

Hi,
Only thing I can tell that there is a bug in Multi Platform Compiler that is stopping us from doing more on the matter :(

I can't believe it's 2024. I've totally moved away from Windows to Linux Mint now that it's evolution to becoming a Communist-style surveillance platform is complete with co-pilot, windows update, telemetry, and of course the millions of spyware software.

Is MM5 finally natively available on Linux? Is it possible to run the Windows version in Bottles (wine)?
