I have been trying to create a view which lists albums without track information. I.e. functionally it would be like "grid (by album)" view (in that it shows album level info only), but visually it would be a list, with one line per album, without any track info.
Unless I am missing something, I cannot suppress the individual track details in any of the list views. On the other hand, I find it difficult to visually scan a large collection for what I want in the grid views.
I think these behaviors are baked into the "built-in" views ("Grid (by album)", "list", "list (by album")), as we can only select one of the built in views as the basis of any custom views. It seems that to achieve my desired presentation, I would have to create a new "built-in" view.
Can this be done? How?
Can one create a new "view type"?

This is not possible, the List view is track based only.
