Basic View and setup problem

Post by johngillis »

I've installed MM5 recently and I am now seeing double. That is, there are two copies of every one of my 26000 tracks, showing up in the main screen of MM.

The main list shows a path of one track as:

"Aristotle-E\my music\liszt\...." which is grey lettering on black. Then the very same track is on the next line but listed as:
"E:\my music\Liszt\...." and is in white on black lettering.

and so on down the entire database are duplicate entries. This also shows up on my Android version of the database. And whenever I go to play a track it plays it twice since it is showing two of each.

The E drive is in fact a drive on the computer "Aristotle", so clearly the duplicates are all pointing to the same track. But I can't figure out why Media Monkey is creating these dupes in the catalog. Obviously it is, somehow being directed to look at the alias name for this E drive, which is called "Aristotle-E". A puzzle.

This indicates that Windows changed the DriveID (unless you swapped hard drives).

Presumably the files on Aristotle-E\ have an older Added date? in that case you remove the E drive from the Location node, then manually re-assign drive for the Aristotle-E\ drive.

I tried to make changes based on your suggestions, but I've failed so far.

To answer your question the Aristotle-E have older dates (this is a shared drive), and it seems that all 25000 tracks that are listed as on E\: (the direct drive on this machine) have a date of 11 Jul 24.

I am looking for a MediaMonkey guru who I would pay to properly set up my system both on Windows and on Android (which is having a similar problem with duplicate files.) If you are such a MM person who I could pay to do this work, let me know. Or if there is someone else out there who knows MM really well and can sort these issues out, that is good too .
Also, I'm going to need to port my MM5 install to a new machine, arriving in 2 weeks, so I will need help on that to insure all data and settings carry over to the new machine.

Then the above advice should work.

1. Backup the database first.
2. Delete the E:\ drive from the Location node.
3. Manually re-assign drive for the Aristotle-E\ drive in the Location node.
