Wi-Fi sync ends up with too many files transferred

Post by Dan33185 »

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I've tried to change every settings I could, synced and re-synced multiple times, but I am still ending up with more files on my Android than I have in my music library on my desktop. My most recent sync I am at over 100 extra files compared to what I should have. Here are my settings on both Android and desktop:

You should expect all your Music files on the device + any files not in Music, but matching any of the selected Playlists. Are you seeing other files than that?

All the songs in my playlists are part of my library, all of them are added through MM desktop using right click > send to > playlist, so it shouldn't be creating duplicates I wouldn't think. I'm not sure what the extra files are, and short of going through every track 1 by 1, I'm not sure how to figure that out.

How are you determining too many files are Synced? Are you saying you duplicate copies on your device?

You'll need to investigate which files are on the device that shouldn't be. Once you know what shouldn't be on the device a reason for it can be discovered.

Maybe you've removed files from MMW, and haven't had them deleted on Sync?

As long as I have "Delete all local files and playlists that aren't on the sync list" ticked, it should remove everything not on my desktop, I've confirmed it when the pop up appears.

EDIT- Ok, I went to an artist with a large amount of songs and noticed there are 6 more on my Android than on the desktop. I found 1 duplicate within the first minute of looking, so I went to my file explorer to see what it looked like in the folder. Not sure why this is happening. I just went through and deleted all MP3's that start with "00" and am re-syncing, guess we'll see what happens.

Could it be your device is counting the album art files and you are only counting actual tracks on the pc?
Using V2024 LATEST alpha or beta build on Windows 11, HP laptop, managing 13k tracks

Well, doing this actually made the difference larger, so that didn't work. No idea what to do at this point, very frustrating.

I doubt it, when I search for ".jpg" in my music folder, there are literally thousands of results showing "folder.jpg", and the difference in tracks between my computer and Android is 178 tracks.

It looks like you changed the naming convention for Synced files at some point. Is that the case?

I'm not sure what delete option you've actually set, it may need to be All other media files.

A clean start (wipe all files of device) may also solve the issue.

So here's what it shows when I go to Media Servers under this specific album:

But, when I go to my library on MMA, here's what I see:

There is actually a 3rd duplicate of that track further down. So, the number of files is correct on the server, but when I sync for some reason it's creating duplicates.

I did change the naming convention, but I did that before I cleared my phone completely and re-synced through USB. I'll try it again though, we'll see what happens.
