Phantom Genre Entry in the Database

Post by durden999uk »

I was levelling the volume of some newly added files the other day, and my computer crashed. When I started MM again, everything seemed fine, and I carried on with the levelling.

I have just realised, however, that I have a phantom entry for one song tagged with the genre 'Rap', a fact which sticks out on the stats screen as I don't use genre (e.g. 13,925 - Blank, 1 - Rap). I am pretty sure it is from the file that was being levelled when the computer crashed, and now, despite clearing all my 14,000 odd files of genre, the phantom tag remains.

Any ideas about how to get rid of it?

Try looking directly in the .mdb file for it.
Download my scripts at my own MediaMonkey fansite.
All the code for my website and scripts is safely backed up immediately and for free using Dropbox.

go to the genre node, click the rap genre, press F2 to rename or delete to clear and press enter. This should remove it.

You might need to maintain/compact the library afterwards.

Many thanks for a typically swift and helpful response on the MM boards. The problem is solved (via F2 method - I don't have MS Access, which is what I believe is required to edit the .mdb file?).
