Remote skip forward or back not working on earphones

Just got the AUSOUNDS neckband earphones and the skip-forward or skip-back keys don't seem to work on MMA. I tried toggling the "always respond to remote buttons" option, but no difference. The function does work using the YouTube app, so it's not the phones. What's up?

Do other buttons on the headphones work and have you tried it with MMA being the foreground (active) app with the phone unlocked?
