Main Frame to stay at Current song playing [#19158]

Post by Reservoir Dogz »

yeah Gday.

Im a V5 Noob and also drunk... so please dont flame me..

but.... How do I get the Main Frame (ALL TRACKS) to stay at the "current Playing" song in the main frame (like version 4 did)

Seems like only the small right hand frame stays with what's playing.

Can I switch the Main frame with the right frame... ??

p.s. I dont care much for the "playing" option with its pretty graphics.. I just want the list.

CHeeeeeers Folks..

Rdog.

The Filelisting doesn't follow the playing file, but you can use the General: Focus tracklist in currently playing item Hotkey to jump to the playing file: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... _Shortcuts

Focust Main List on Playing Track

Post by MattTown »

(Post relocated by admins)
Long time MM4 user, just upgraded to MM5 (build 5.0.3.2627).
My recollection was that MM4 had an option to focus the main list (central panel, not the "Now Playing" panel) on the track that was currently playing. This would allow me to see the current playing track in its artist/album library context.
The option does not appear to be present in MM5, and configuring the "General: Focus tracklist on currently playing file" hotkey only has the focus change within the Now Playing panel, not the main track list.
This is important to how I use MM, is there a way to restore focus within the main music list to the now playing track?
Thanks

(responding to OP)
I have the same problem. I tried the "focus tracklist on current playing file" and it only relocates the focus within the Now Playing panel, not the main list. So, this isn't a solution to the problem of not being able to readily locate the currently playing file within a list of 20+K entries.

Is the focus on the Filelisting when you use the Hotkey?

Thanks for the quick response Lowlander, yes that's fixed it (at least for a one-click test).
Note to self, relocate focus to main list before asking to see the current track in the main list.
Cheers

HOWEVER, this fix only appears to work for one main list tab. For the purpose of preserving a set column and sort sequence I generally have several main list tabs operating. If I have a song playing and turn my focus to the third tab of the main list, the "Change focus to playing track" hot key (which I had to set via Tools/Options/Hotkey) does not actually change the focus to the current track in the third tab (note that the playing track would be present in each tab's list).
From a small amount of experimentation, it appears that the relocate to current track only works for the main list tab that was in focus when the track started playing.

When you switch to the third tab is the focus on the Filelisting before executing the Hotkey?

Some learning for me here about what constitutes "focus". If I just click on a tab to bring that main list to the fore, then the hotkey won't relocate to the playing track. If I click on a single track in that list then it will relocate. I expected that just clicking on the tab so that I could see the list would be sufficient, but I suppose there is some subtlety about what object is being manipulated. Its a simple workaround (click on any line in the tab's list before using the hotkey) now that I'm familiar with it, but it is not intuitive.

Another wrinkle - even with getting the focus exactly right, the relocate hotkey does not work at all if I double click on a future track in the Playing list (panel at right, filled by Auto DJ) to make that the current playing file. Process - double click on a lower file in the playing list to make that the current playing file. Relocate focus to the main list (click on a file line in the central panel) and execute the relocate hot key - nothing happens in the main list.
An annoyance and I can live without it, but it points to the relocate function being very limited. Would it be possible to make the relocate behaviour more robust?
<edit> I subsequently found that if I double clicked on a previously played track in Now Playing, the relocate to track does function in the main list, but double clicking on a not-yet played track still doesn't enable relocate.
