MediaMonkey 5 for Debian / Linux
Good day to you all,
I am wondering when MM is available on Linux.
After I made the switch to Linux (Linux Mint / Debian) a few years ago, the one thing that is missing, is my good old MM.
I tried using Wine to install it. I looked for alternatives. But nothing beats the good experience I had when using it on Win.
Is MM still developing / working on a version for Linux?
Greets flojisan!

Current target is a MAC OS version first, but Linux is on the radar in the future.

Please share a list of steps taken to install and WINE configuration and version info!
Who of you would like a MediaMonkey version for Linux?
Hello dear MediaMonkey community.
I would like to start a small survey:
Who of you would like a MediaMonkey version for Linux?
Since I don't know how the development team stands on this question and whether they would be able to do it at all and have the appropriate resources at their disposal, this survey is to be considered hypothetical.
regarding this question, I found an answer from a developer in 2022.

As it looks, a Linux version is not unrealistic.
The background to my question is as follows:
I've been using Linux in parallel with Windows for about two years.
MediaMonkey 5 has established itself as my favorite program for editing and listening to my music collection.
Since I work mostly on Linux, I wanted to be able to use MediaMonkey on Linux as well.
Now it would be interesting to know how other users think about this topic and to see how great this need would be.
Would you also be willing to pay for such a version?
If I were me, I would be willing to pay a price of up to $30 for it. And now it's your turn, I'm looking forward to your comments.

Re: Who of you would like a MediaMonkey version for Linux?
That's an amount I would also pay for a cross-update as a Windows MM-Lifetime user.
MM 2024.1.0.3101 Alpha-DE, Win 11 pro, I5-6500T, 16GB RAM,
Re: Who of you would like a MediaMonkey version for Linux?
It will be a pleasure for me to spend 30 € für a MacOS(!) Version of MediaMonkey!
Additional I will support financially the Development of a MacOS Version with 300 €. Why I do that? If I imagine I must start at zero in another, worse software - horrible! MM for me is the state of art to play & manage audio files.
@ MM Team: if you plan to bring out a MacOS version contact me, this above is not a emptyness promise.
Hope to hear from you
Ingo

I check here every couple years, but never see any movement.
I would also pay a premium, but not holding my breath. Maybe when enough people get creeped over the sheer amount of data that is being collected by Microsoft (and its partners), they will start to understand the appeal of Linux.
Until then, we wait......

Hi,
There is still no full Delphi compiler on Linux, but after MAC version gets out we can think of Linux too.
I would also like to have it on Linux.

Re: MediaMonkey 5 for Debian / Linux
Hi Peke and all,
that could be interpreted as meaning that an MM version for MAC is in work? That would make me very happy and would be another important step in finally leaving the Windows world (again).
As I said above: I'm happy to pay for MM and I'm still committed to supporting the development of a MAC version with 300 Euros.
Can't you give a little insight into how far the MM on MAC project is?
Regards
Ingo
Re: MediaMonkey 5 for Debian / Linux
There is internal Alpha working version for quite some time. It is delayed partially due the Apple publishing policy, also partially due the fact not all features can be easily ported and we do not want partial experience on MAC, but being able to do at least 90% of Windows features (leaving 10% of features that are still Windows bounded unfortunately).

Alpha working version sounds like an early stage, beta version shortly before the test phase would have made me much happier.
Please don't think I'm trying to talk you into your development, but perhaps you could discuss internally whether it wouldn't be an option to start smaller, with the core competence of MM...!?
According to the Apple rumors, the Macbook Air with M4 will be released in Q1/2025 - I would take that if there was good software for playing and managing my music...
Anyway, I'll stay tuned and monitor the progress here.
Before I forget: Happy New Year 2025 to everyone!
Best wishes
Ingo
Re: MediaMonkey 5 for Debian / Linux
Hi,
There are legal issues that needs to be addressed before, as you know Apple is strict on side loading and easily blackflag applications, which means we are forced to follow their order of releasing than what we used to with Windows Version.
We wish we can publish more, but all in its due time
Happy New year 2025 and HAPPY MONKEYING to all!
FYI this is Linux thread not MAC thread and this is getting off topic
