How do I find the "device destination" of a media server i'm trying to add?

Post by The Original G Man »

We got a new wifi router that I think is the cause of my problem? When I attempt to sync over wifi, I get an error message saying "sync incomplete / connection failed." I then go in to UPnP and try to "add media server" and it prompts for a device destination. How do I find out what that is?

I'm not sure I'm explaining this right and I could be completely off about my new router being involved. Sorry, just not tech proficient enough to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I'm running the latest versions of MMW and MMA.

Please start here: https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... ccessible/

Make sure that wifi devices are allowed to see other devices on the network (often not the case on guest wifi).

Lowlander,

Here's what I'm showing. I don't know what any of this means, I'm afraid.

I have no idea what this means:

"path_to_device_description_file.xml: this is normally DeviceDescription.xml for a MediaMonkey Server."

What is "DeviceDescription?"

Hi,
Path to DeviceDescription.XML file is URL to Full DLNA server Capability Description file.

You can scan teh QR code on your phone and you will get direct link an dMM Server capabilities and settings.

Parts of XML should be mostly self explanatory.

Guys,

I'm at wit's end with this. I don't know what I'm supposed to do here. I've tried all of these steps. The UpnP option on my phone says "The stored media server is unavailable" no matter what I do.

Getting back to my original question, does this have something to do with us getting a new router?

What can I do? Is there some sort of telephone help line where somebody can talk me through this?

It is possible that the IP of the server has changed with the new router. The IP that it had when posting your screenshot was 192.168.86.22 and the port was 59487.

Why not use the first entry DESKTOP-IN5DMSG? Is that not MediaMonkey on your desktop? If not, what other DLNA Server is running on your PC?

I don't know what a DLNA server is, or how to tell what ones are running on my PC.

DESKTOP-IN5DMSG only appeared under UPnP after I encountered this problem and tried to fix it. I'm using my family's shared computer, so that one leads to my own Desktop profile (I think?), but all of our music is in the "Public Music" folder.

Did you try it, to see if it accesses your MediaMonkey Library? Although I assume not, it's best to confirm.

And when you're trying to access the server are you logged into the PC with your account and is MediaMonkey running? This would be required for it to show up as available instead of unavailable.

It does not access my MM library. It shows empty folders for Music, Videos, etc. And, yes, I have MM open and running on my PC while I'm trying to do this.

Also, not sure if it matters, but when my internet provider replaced my router, they put in a Google one. I've been all through the Google Home app trying to see if there's something in the settings there, and UPnP is showing as enabled.
