I have the same two folders specified for scanning in both versions. All dead links have been deleted in both.
MM5 reports 8,059 files and MM4 8,106. What is the likely reason for that difference of 147 files and how best to identify them please?

There is no easy way to discover why this is the case. Have you checked duplicates in MM4?

Re: Difference between content in MM4 & MM5
I hadn't done so. There are many (at least by Title). But shouldn't they be identical in both versions, as identical scans were performed on each?

Re: Difference between content in MM4 & MM5
Do you have any filetypes enabled in MM4 that are not included in MM5, like m4a or something?
There is also a minimum file size setting that may affect what is included.
Is MM4 scanning for video files like mp4 or etc?
You could always export the lists from each, and put them in an excel sheet for comparison.
Once you find the first file that is missing from MM5, then you should soon see what is different about it.

Re: Difference between content in MM4 & MM5
You could try doing a comparison of the number of files per Genre, comparing MM4 to MM5.
You may get lucky and see a difference for a genre where you have relatively few tracks, which would make identification a lot easier.
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.

Thanks both, very helpful. Making progress. But find it easy to get into an almighty mess once I start using Auto-organize and Auto-tag on folder with inconsistent tagging.

Re: Difference between content in MM4 & MM5
That's for sure - the GIGO factor applies here.
I find it best to use autoorganize on selected tracks only, by album, or by recently tagged and verified batches.
Once you have your system of "auto-organize" set up the way you want, it can be quite effective.
But of course, if you are using sync or backup to other devices, all renamed files will be duplicated, and sometimes hard to find.
Personally, I try very hard to never let it change the filenames, and get those in an acceptable format right from the start.
You can set auto-organize to create folder structure you want, but keep original filename.

Re: Difference between content in MM4 & MM5
Check for the minimum file size setting in MM5.
If the filter is turned on, the program will not count those files in the library.
Also, if you have classical music and tag it as such, MM creates a separate folder just for that genre.
