Hello I've run into a few snags. [#19758]

Post by KthugS »

I'm writing a post here because using mma2 beta didn't solve the problem.

I was looking for a program specialized in syncing music, and I came across MediaMonkey a while ago.
And I tried to sync with the settings as below.

I do not have permission to post images.
So I will only list a few key settings.

MMW
Sync Target: All Music
auto-conversion : disable
file location : \<Folder>\<Filename> - Same path configuration as PC
tagging : all disable - I don't want to create additional cover art files and want to keep the original metadata.

MMA
Sync Target: All Music
delete from the device : all unselected files

When I tested it with about 2000 songs, it worked perfectly.
pc to android
USB sync, wi-fi sync worked perfectly.
I changed the metadata of some songs on my pc, and I was very satisfied to see that the changed metadata was perfectly synced to Android.

So I bought mma pro.
And I bought a 1tb micro sd for 28366 songs.
And started a long long sync.

After a long time has passed and synchronization has ended
I've run into a few snags.

1. File names not syncing correctly
25 - La clemenza di Tito, K. 621; Act II, Scene XVII. No. 26 Sestetto con coro 'Tu, è ver, m'assolvi, Augusto' (Sesto, Tito, Vitellia, Servilia, Annio, Publio, Coro).flac
to
25 - La clemenza di Tito, K. 621; Act II, Scene XV. flac

2. Unintentional creation of duplicate files
My music file names are usually structured like this.
artist\album\tracknumber - title.ext
But
artist\album\tracknumber - title_1.ext
In this way, hundreds of unintended copies of the song were created on the device.

I thought it would happen if there were identical songs in the library with different filenames.
pc -
Adele\[2012-10-04] Skyfall\01 - Skyfall.flac
The Best of Bond... James Bond\CD2 -\10 - Skyfall.flac
device -
Adele\[2012-10-04] Skyfall\01 - Skyfall.flac
The Best of Bond... James Bond\CD2 -\10 - Skyfall.flac
The Best of Bond... James Bond\CD2 -\10 - Skyfall_1.flac
(In this case, the filename is a copy of "10 - Skyfall.flac", but the metadata matches "01 - Skyfall.flac".)

But it also happens if the same song doesn't exist
pc -
A Tribe Called Quest\[1991-09-24] The Low End Theory\15 - Jazz (We've Got) (re-recording).flac
device -
A Tribe Called Quest\[1991-09-24] The Low End Theory\15 - Jazz (We've Got) (re-recording).flac
A Tribe Called Quest\[1991-09-24] The Low End Theory\15 - Jazz (We've Got) (re-recording)_1.flac

I searched for "_1" on my device and deleted all copies and
Delete MMW's device profile and reset library
Then I deleted MMA's app data and tried syncing again.

The same problem I mentioned earlier happens again.

Most of the files from the PC to the device have already been copied normally, so there is no time fear of attempting synchronization.
However, indexing the library of the device that initialized the app settings is a huge time burden for me.

Am I missing something or do you have any other suggestions I could try?

I will change the filename to 128 characters or less
And we'll test it again.

Hi,
I just tested on fw hundred of files and had no issues at all, both with "\Music\<filename>" and my regular sync mask "\Music\<Title>\<Title> - <Artist>"

I tested multiple syncs and no duplicates were created, except when I created duplicate file in MM library and then synced then it appended (1) to track filename when used with "\Music\<Title>\<Title> - <Artist>".

Here is one of test files I synced.

Hi,
Have you managed to test things and if you still observe issue and we can't replicate a debug log would be more than welcome and we would be grateful if you can create one as described here https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... 30&t=86643 ?

Duplicate files are still created.
every time you try to sync
filename_1.ext, filename_2.ext.

One question arose here.
Are there any reports of "scanning files into the library" not working properly?
For me this is taking a very long time.
And after this task was completed, I found that "scanning files into the library" started again when I restarted mma and restarted the phone even though I did not perform synchronization or file change.
It takes several hours just like the initial run, not just detecting changes.

And
Choose library folders -
- SD Card -
Movies
Music
Video
My Music - This is the folder containing my music files.

Grant access to external storage
All folders are checked

However, I found that it keeps resetting like below.

Choose library folders -
- SD Card -
SD Card (all) - Only this one item is displayed.
If I want to add another folder, I have to delete "SD Card (all)" first to add another folder.

Grant access to external storage -
- SD Card -
Music CREATE & GRANT
Video CREATE & GRANT
It appears only when there is only one item "SD Card (all)" in the library folder.

I think this is the cause of all my problems.

Hi,

It is very possible that that cause the issues, unfortunately there are several aspects that can influence that, MMA save settings to /MediaMonkey/files/ on SDcard and for example if there is some app that cleans cache it is possible that settings you set get reset on scheduled time.

I created Ticket #5343 for you so that we can try to resolve it more direct, than public forum.

However, I found that it keeps resetting like below.
Is something triggering the previously assigned permissions to reset? e.g. are you connecting a USB drive to the phone? Rebooting the phone? etc.

Thanks!

I tried connecting mtp, restarting the device, restarting mma, and checking for new/changed media two or three times, but there was no reset of the library folder.

The case where this phenomenon is evident is when sync is attempted.
At first, I found this phenomenon after sync ended, but I just checked and it seems to reset immediately after starting sync.
I checked when I was in the analyzing sync list step, and the library folder list was reset.
And in the next step it will start downloading the files that already exist on the sd card from the server.
It creates copies like many filename_1.ext and the sync is done.

So to make sure I'm understanding:
When you do a Wi-Fi sync, the initially configured permissions remain.
But then when you initiate a USB sync and then run MMA, the original permissions are lost and you're re-prompted to grant permissions.

Is that right?

It's Wi-Fi sync. I must have confused you. Shall i try using USB sync and see if the same problem occurs?

I confirmed that mma's library folder is reset even when using USB sync.

I deleted mma's app data and cache
Cleanly deleted all files located in the two paths below on the device and sd card.
/android/data/com.ventismedia.android.mediamonkey
/MediaMonkey/files/

Added folders to library.
And now "scanning files into the library" is in progress.
It will take several hours to complete. Again..
When the scan is complete, I will back up the files in the above two paths.

When I checked before deleting the app data
mmstore.db, storageInfo.xml These files were found in several paths.
device/Android/data/com.ventismedia.android.mediamonkey/files/files
device/MediaMonkey/files/
SD/Android/data/com.ventismedia.android.mediamonkey/files/files

There was also an artwork folder on the SD card that totaled about 600 megabytes.
android/data/com.ventismedia.android.mediamonkey/files/artworks

Anyway, when the scan is complete, I will leave it as it is without taking any actions such as Wi-Fi sync.

I updated to mma beta 1061.
Library folder list no longer resets when attempting to sync.
I'm so happy.

I deleted all the music files on the sd card and I am re-downloading all the music by wi-fi sync.

When the download is complete, I plan to test whether the file name is copied with the same name and whether duplicate files are created when syncing is attempted again.

Fantastic! There were some permission-related fixes in 1061 so it's possible all your issues are fixed. Let us know when you're done testing.

Thanks!

Library folder list and permissions have been reset again in mma.

I don't know when this was reset.

But what really pleases me positively is
Synchronization was attempted several times in this state, but no duplicate files were created as before.
And the PC and the number of tracks exactly matched, and when the metadata was modified on the PC, it was perfectly synced to the device.

Thank you. I'm so happy.
I've wasted way too much time on this over the course of a week.

I don't know if my head hurts again later because of the Android sd card permission problem, but now it seems that all problems with synchronization have been solved.

Thank you again.
