Playlists on OTG USB-stick are not seen [#20030]

Post by Dancer »

In my new android radio car device I of course installed MediaMonkey. However, I can't get started with it.
My music library is on an usb-stick that is integrated as storage device. MMA is recognizing it but doesn't load the content into its categories, albums, playlists and so on.

Help appreciated.

This is how the folder looks like:

Did you add it in Choose folders in MMA?

Yes, I have. The individual music folders were also shown the last time I tried, so I assumed it was working now, but when clicking on a category - for example "Albums" - the directory is supposed to be empty.

For playlists and videos, the respective directory is said to be empty from the start, even though there are files in there.

I installed the app "Power Amp" for comparison. There, everything was immediately recognized and integrated.

Hi,
What version of MMA you use?
Can you try using MMA Folders browser to play some tracks/playlists?

EDIT: Not sure what Model you bought as HeadUnit, but my Dasaita HU recognize and mount as Temp Removable OTG otorage which have limited access and its IDs can change each time they get mounted (turning the start key and HU boots). MMA 2.0.0.1080 works much better than MM 1.x

I chosed Build 1079 from Google Play Store. Without pro, so I can't play it from MMA folder.
However, I could play a video from file manager with "open with MMA" that works.
And I haven't plugged it off.

As I wrote: Power Amp has no problem having any issues...

Hi,
You should be able to use folder browser on Trial basis, but if they play from File explorer you can check track properties an dsee if real path is assigned to track or Virtual one.

Also if they play from File explorer then you should be also browse it with MMA folders.

I have installed the Pro now. In the MMA file explorer I can see the music folders and files and also launch the tracks.
From the launched track is then also visible in the dashboard its album and the corresponding categories.
It seems that MMA does not scan the library. At least the scan is already over after 1 second, although there are over 30 GB.
All files have a real path, even the playlists (screenshot of "Alternative.m3u"). But playlists are NOT displayed in MMA Explorer. See second screenshot.

Yes. Thank you for adding the issue.
And what about the scan not working? Normally all folders should be easy to scan and then displayed on dashboard. Why is it stuck?

I am curious can you tell me what actual device model you have as I have not seen this UI with overlay controls, especially as it is Android 12? Can you make About device screenshot (omit IMEI and SERIAL numbers) the manufacturer is usually listed in MCU information?

It is due the way how Android Head Units report OTG storage (Temp connection IDs) , actually OTG storage support is very poorly documented on Android. Only recently it was improved, including some custom OS like LineageOS that have own drivers to switch OTG modes.

We initially added Scanning of OTG and external Storage, but it usually ended in multiple Grayed Storage/Tracks often new one is created as soon as drive gets mounted (when you turn the Start key and device boots) that result in tens+ duplicates,... so untill full OTG support is standardized and natively supported in MMA to avoid such issues is partially limited.

The device is from Xtrons. Here you have a link to webpate of my model.
I'll look for making a screenshot soon.
The feature in the screenshot you reposted is very interesting. On any app display you have a half transparent blue button that you can move to any conveniant place or the screen.
When you tap on it, the overlay controls appear to easily switch to home screen or back. A very intelligent solution. Android version 12. Might be special for this device.

The USB-stick is not plugged as a temporary device but like an external sd-card, constantly plugged in. Do you think there is a changing connection ID though?
Why can Power Amp handle it?

So the conclusion is that I can't use MMA on my new Android radio?

Hi,
Hmmm, Check if Xtrons is MTCD/MTCE/MTC??? (Device if yes then you can also check Custom ROMs Like Malaysk or Hal9k.

I personally have bit older device than https://hot-audio.com/products/dasaita- ... o-1?_pos=7 in my car, but it is working perfectly 4GB/32GB PX5 Octa Core CPU

Also I have installed https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom- ... e.3762724/ because I have old BT module even Android 10 is available https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom- ... 0.4175209/

I didn't find exactly what you want. Here are 2 screenshots:

Hi,
Unfortunately it is not an MTCD device and also it is Android 11 (Build Number)

What I wanted is MCU name eg.
Image

So they faked Android 12 where actual build is Android 11 from 2020-04-26 :( You can try to check that with https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... specdevice

Correct Information is
Image

Shame on them as they had really good PX5/PX6 MTCD/E devices

Unfortunately here is where my help stops as I am not sure what else they changed. Also it explains such low price.
