How To Get Rid of the YouTube Icon

Post by sfmusicfan »

In MM5, after I search for an artist, their album icons are displayed. In the top right corner of the main center panel there are two icons. One labelled "My Library" and the other labelled "YouTube". I want that YouTube thing gone forever. How do I get rid of it?

Thanks in advance.

Happy New Year to all.

Hi,
You can't as that is the list of tracks on Youtube eg. You are looking at artist Queen and you can click on You Tube Tab to search YouTube for Queen tracks and play them.

Simply do not use that tab and MM will not search YouTube for Artist tracks.

Happy Monkeying in 2024.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Peke.

Disappointing that it can't be turned off/removed. The reason I want it gone is because it wasted a ton of my time. While ripping some CDs, then checking the band name, artwork etc. I could not understand why things were not as they should be. Incorrect band name, wrong art work, album titles I don't own, you name it. It was some time before I realized I must have inadvertently clicked on the YouTube icon so the source of what I was seeing was coming from there and not my own library. As soon as I clicked on My Library, everything was normal again. I cannot understand why the MM devs thought having that damn icon on the main page by default and not configurable was a good idea. It isn't. It's annoying. For a product which is so flexible and so configurable, being forced to have something on screen which you don't want simply does not fit with the ethos of how the rest of MM works. I'll gloss over the evil empire who owns YouTube and leave it there. :-)

Thanks again and all the best.

Hi,
I agree with you, before YouTube Icon there was ONLINE library TAB, but YouTube complained and we needed to change it :( It was always there, but with Online name it was more clear.

EDIT: I maybe use different theme, but for me it is very clear what TAB is selected.

I'm afraid I, too, just went through Library "hell" trying to realign several tracks/albums only to run into exactly the problem noted above. Prior to today, I was not even aware of the "YOUTUBE" icon on the search area but for some reason it was "clicked" when trying to do my library editing. I spent an hour trying to figure out why I couldn't change much less find the items I had just edited in my library and was confused entirely by the [Youtube] indicator in the track listings ( many of which were in Russian!). I am a long time user of MM/MMA and have never come across this issue. I thought my entire library had been corrupted!

I too vote for this search icon to be moved or modified (requiring prompts to activate?) in a way that the ordinary user doesn't get caught in this trap,

Many thanks for all the hard work that all of you put into MM...It's been my go-to media manager for years!

Best,

Ron

The only way I can get the icon to display is by going to a specific artist in the "artists" node, or composer, or etc, or by highlighting a track and selecting find more from same, and selecting artist.

When I see it, it is very clearly labelled "YOUTUBE" in big letters, and shows when it has been selected.

I cannot see this when I select a collection, or all files, and filter by say artist. So I don't see an issue here.
Are you guys seeing this anyplace else?

There was a thread a while back about unwanted online access, where people were hoping for an option to turn OFF any online access not specifically requested, but I think this button fell under the category of "Specifically requested"

As noted, once I figured out the icon was "triggered", then it IS obvious...what was not obvious is how it was triggered in the first place. I don't use YOUTUBE in MM for any purpose and have never seen it before...only when I started editing my library did I notice the unusual properties which did NOT match any of my files. The only clue I had that the YOUTUBE icon was activated was the unusual properties listed for tracks (including a notation [YOUTUBE] and that is when I started looking for a solution to what was happening...I then stumbled upon this post. I have used MM for years and have never noticed this button, much less use it, and I have no idea how it was triggered in the present case. I spent over an hour trying to figure out what was happening when I saw the YOUTUBE icon highlighted. What may be obvious to one user doesn't necessarily make it obvious for others. That is why I suggested a prompt asking if the user really wanted to activate the YOUTUBE icon.

The global search is overemphasized at the expense of the advanced search.

In earlier versions (here the .3005), the advanced search ran as follows:
1. selection magnifying glass: no change in the main list
2. select advanced search with triangle: list with filter mask in the header, no Youtube.

Now (.3043)
1. selection magnifying glass: BOOM a Youtube icon appears with an empty list.
2. selection advanced search with triangle: Nothing happens, same view.
3. click on the text “Switch to advanced”: Now I finally have the desired view

I'd found no way to activate the advanced search with a hotkey. Only the prominent Global search is supported (Magnifying glass and F3 and Ctrl+F. Cumbersome for users who want to manage only their own archive without informing alphabet about it.

Error:
When entering a search text without first selecting a search function, a view with the correct result is generated. However, if you then select the advanced search next to the search term using the triangle, MM runs into an error

You likely need to switch search from YouTube to My Library, once switched it will stay on My Library. Also current build is 3051.

You could be forgiven for thinking Youtube has been selected, because even unselected, it has the bigger brighter font....

Thanks for the hints.
Now I'd found the Hotkey for the Advanced Search.
I'd changed Ctrl+F to this function so that the YouTube icon no longer has to annoy me.
(The behavior when selecting Advanced Search with the down arrow at the magnification glass was fixed in the meantime, sorry for my outdated release)
