Hello,
I am attempting to clean up my MMW music library, before I do a Sync. to my WWA phone, and I am following the instruction provided by the Media Monkey Wiki.
Following those instructions on deleting duplicates, all seems to be progressing well so far.
As per the directions " In the Tree, go to the library > Files to Edit > Duplicate content node." (my selection) and was prompted to analyze my library for duplicates.
After the Analysis was completed, I was instructed to click the '+' to show which tracks were found to be duplicated.
At that point, a list of songs titles appeared on the left side of the screen showing the song titles and artist names in duplicate and was told to manually delete the tracks that I no longer require.
As I click on the songs in the list, and they appear in the box to the right, the titles and paths show, and I select which duplicated title I want deleted from that screen.
After it highlights and right clicking it, I would select "remove" from the drop-down menu and would the song then become deleted back over on my "entire library's " screen?
Your guidance is most appreciated.
Best regards,
CK

Yes, deleting from Duplicate Content deletes from anywhere in MediaMonkey.

Re: Deleting Duplicate Songs
Hi,
I followed the directions on finding duplicates, and now have a list of those duplicated song titles as described that I would see in the instructions.
It shows that the paths listed with each duplicated song is :
C:\users\david\downloads\ (with the song title)
and
C:\users\david\music\ (with the song title)
My question would be, which would be the best one to delete? and the one to retain, with it's advantages?
There would be only one scenario where I would keep both duplicated songs and that would be in case of a short and long version of the same song.
Thanks, and regards,
CK

Re: Deleting Duplicate Songs
It doesn't matter for MediaMonkey, but presumably you'd want to keep the copy in the music folder and delete the copy in the downloads folder.

Re: Deleting Duplicate Songs
Hi Lowlander,
One more quick question.
After highlighting the "downloads" pathed song, and selecting 'remove' from the dropdown menu, a choice is given on whether to "remove" (Del) from just the "library only" or to delete from the " Library and Computer"
I know that I want to delete the song from the library, but I am wondering whether or not to delete it from my computer as well, just in case something was to happen (a crash) to my Media Monkey program.
I would still like to have the song available in the computer.
I believe that the choice, (in my case,) would be to just take it out of the MM library,
but please correct me if I am wrong.
Your response is much appreciated.
As always, best regards,
CK

Re: Deleting Duplicate Songs
You can leave them on the computer, but make sure you don't scan the downloads folder again, as then all the duplicates would be back in MediaMonkey.

Re: Deleting Duplicate Songs
Lowlander,
Thanks for your advice,
I assume that there is a path to follow that will give me an option 'not' to have the "downloads" folder scanned.
I worry that the 379 duplicated songs will reappear in the library if I make the wrong choice.
I don't really have a good knowledge about the program's scanning criteria, but typically my MMW appears to automatically scan songs upon each time I re-open the program.
I really need to configure my MMW to duplicate the changes (any additions and deletions of songs that I make in the MMW library,) to automatically reflect in my phone's MMA upon a USB sync.
That way both programs are current via the syncs.
Thank you for your continued guidance and patience.

CK

Re: Deleting Duplicate Songs
If automatic scanning is happening, you've enabled Folder Monitoring. You can disable it or at least make sure Downloads is not selected in manual or folder monitoring scanning.
