Toolbar(s) Disappeared

I opened MM up to find my main and sub-toolbar(s) are gone. Poof. Missing. I have no idea how this happened, but I'm lost without those features:
File, Edit, View, etc., etc.

I've spent extensive time searching the MM Forum for help on how I can turn them back on, but with no success. (There was one posting, but I wasn't sure it was applicable to my circumstances.)

Anyone able to help step me thru it?

Thanks!

Tool bar might be turned off right click where it should be and pick customize or view tool bar, its just like showing them in your internet explorer or windows explorer.

Those options do not appear. When I right click in that area (top left), I only the following options to check or uncheck (with all selected but Context and Configure):
--Context
--Shortcuts
--Search
--View
--Navigation
--Configure

Looked a little closer in Configure. In the Toolbars column (left side), only the "Shortcuts" Toolbar is showing. I do see "Available Actions" (right column), but not sure what to do to add them to the Toolbar column.

Also, shouldn't there be more than just the Shortcuts toolbar? If so, how do I restore the default toolbar(s) so I can restore File, Edit, View, Tools, Help, etc.?

File edit view is not really a toolbar, its the menu bar, if they are missing i'm going to guess you might just have it rolled up some how? Can you put pointer ove the line that seperates the mm title bar from the ones below it see if you get the pointer to change in to the one for moving, if you do then left click and pull it down to show the menu bar.
If that is not working then maybe you got it slid to the left and covered up by another bar?
Look for a little grabber line to the left of where the menu bar should be and see if you can move it to right, uncovering the menu bar.?

That didn't work. Any other suggestions?

And if the Menu Bar is the correct title for what has disappeared, how do I restore it if it is gone, not just hidden? (I remember there were was another toolbar/menubar with more icons on it, but what it is called, I haven't a clue.

What? Oh man those should have worked they have for me all times i had that happen. So your able to do an over install are you ?
That is just re-install the program in to the same folder without removing the first atempt at installing, what that does is replace any messed up or missing files, in mediamonkeys doing that it will NOT remove the folders in his folder, so all the skins plugins and database wont be lost. But i dont know of any thing eles to do since the easy stuff didnt fix it. So i'm thinking you should do the overinstall.

In win 7 you will need to run the install in admin mode.

Wait a minute just remebered an old trick from an error in mm3.
When the art window in mm3 epanded and caused an issue of not being able to click on the program because of window place holder was transparent and covering up main mm3 program, it was possible to double click the very top od the title bar and get the program to responed again.
Maybe double clicking there will show you the menu bar again?

Double-clicking in the transparent area didn't work. It DID alter the size of the window to Maximized or Restored Down.

Overinstall: Do I need to give it a different name? May not have a CD for MM4, as it was upgraded by my computer tech who may have done that online.

Geez. This is frustrating. I don't even have a Help option anymore. Thank goodness I remembered about the Forum.

Btw, there's a quick way to delete MM interface settings from registry: CurrentUser\Software\MediaMonkey\Interface. Note that this is rather a hack recommended for advanced users.

I have found here that does not solve similar disappearances of UI elements. I've found it necessary to hack the .INI file. The best way to do this I think is to make a new, portable install of MM, to get a fresh INI file, and then use a tool such as Beyond Compare to diff the new and current INI files, looking for likely differences to revert.

However Snowblossom if you don't yet have much work in MM, instead I suggest to uninstall and reinstall the app.

I do have a lot of work in MM. Not a newbie, (gold member since 2008/2009), but have mostly been working on tagging my music as I can. No scripts, but customization for tagging purposes. Hate to have to redo all that, as well as anything else that might go wrong.

Hmmm . . . been thinking hard about what might have caused this. I recently attempted to update MM4, but the update didn't complete. Hadn't used MM since then. I'm beginning to wonder if that is what wiped out my menu bar (or whatever the correct name). By the way, I have not been able to successfully update since my new computer conversion in Dec. 2011.

*sigh* I seem to have the worst luck with computers. Spend more time restoring lost playlists and settings than making progress on my tagging. Would just like to clean things up so I can enjoy my music. That said, dispite the occasional hiccups, I LOVE MM. Don't know why I held on to MusicMatch Jukebox so long.

Here's hoping to get further help so I can move forward.

BTDTGTTS. Thankfully MM has improved somewhat since then.

OK, then you'll want to avoid wiping the entire UI settings. I think you're certainly going to have to use diffing to fix this. I suggest

1) make a portable install
2) save MediaMonkey's registry keys (e.g. on Windows 7, click Start, type regedt32, press ENTER, perform this: http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/4792 ... betare.png), copy MediaMonkey.INI
3) launch MM and configure the UI to the broken state, end exit.
4) repeat the save and copy to new files
5) diff the two sets with Beyond Compare (free trial), and find the likely culprit setting(s)
6) change the culprit setting in your main installation and test
7) repeat from 1) varying 5) until solved.

chrisjj:
Perhaps I first need to find out what is causing the MM upgrades to not complete. Otherwise, even if I get things back running normally, it will happen again. Guess I need to start a new thread about that one?

Good plan.
