iPod classic running Rockbox is treated as an iPod

Post by niggle »

Hi,

Since I've installed Rockbox, I would like MediaMonkey to treat my iPod Classic as a regular USB bulk storage device, but it still insists on applying the d_iPod.dll, meaning that I can't specify file paths/naming formats and such.

Any way to force it to get MM to stop treating the iPod as an iPod? ;-)

Thanks,
Nigel

Hi,
Does MM5 also handles it as iPod?

I'm running 4.1.30.

Do you think MM5 is worth a punt, in this instance?

Thanks

Hi,
Yes, MM5 is much worth to test and bugs are more quickly fixed there.

Thanks. Yes, it's the same in MM5.

I don't know how it knows it's an iPod actually. Maybe the problem is with my PC settings, not MM. Could it be recognising the device as an iPod, from when it used to be running the Apple firmware?

Hi,
Strange as from what I remember Rockbox have MSC setting so that iPod is connected as Drive letter not as iPod.

Hane you tried to uninstall iTunes and/or Apple Mobile support drivers?

Hi, yes, I've uninstalled all the Apple-related stuff. My laptop is feeling suitably cleansed ;-)

I should have mentioned that my iPod now shows up as two drives, in both Win10 and MM4/5.

E: is 192MB, empty.
F: is 148GB, contains the .rockbox firmware and all my music files (which I've transferred using a simple file sync program, not MM).

MM sees both drives as iPods, so I think MM will try to sync accordingly, and I can't specify any file transfer paths etc, as I could if it was a thumb drive. I can also see in the MM settings that the iPod.dll is being used.

Thanks

Hi,
Can you send me full File listing of both E: and F: on PM?

If easier upload it to dropbox/google drive/one drive/... and send me share download link.

Hi,

I did a complete laptop reset and re-installed Windows, over the weekend. Maybe some Apple driver stuff survived, but I don't think so.

The E: drive (192MB) contains nothing.
The F: drive (~148GB of a 160GB HDD) contains only the .rockbox folder that's installed by the Rockbox installer (as expected), plus a Music folder that I created, with a load of MP3 files.

That's everything.

I can drag and drop music across in file explorer, no problem. I can also use FreeFileSync to copy music across, no problem.
Somehow MM is spotting that the device manufacturer is Apple, and behaving accordingly. Seems there's not much I can do about that :-(

Hi,
Do you know how to list all files and subfolders using command line and save it into file?

Also try this:
1. Close MM
2. Move d_ipod.dll out of plugins folder
3. start mm
4. connect ipod. I wonder if it will be detected as iPod or as regular WMDM device.

Hi, yes, I will PM the file listing.

When I moved the .dll out of the plugins folder, only the E: drive shows up when I connect the iPod.

Hi,

I tried moving the hidden iPod_Control folder from the F: drive to the E: drive, but still MM uses d_iPod.dll for F: and d_WMDM.dll for E:.

If it was just the other way round, I'd be golden :-)

sorry if this is a bit irrelevant. I was wondering if Rockbox is better or if original software+ mediamonkey is better. BTW, I'm running Ipod 4th gen with stock battery and 128GB sd card.
