Flac file recording or playback not working in 3.0.1.1127

Post by Baz »

Hi,
I'm now soley using 3.0.1.1127 release of MM and have found in the last week that I am unable to either playback any of my existing flac format files or to burn a cd to flac format files. However if I playback a flac file using slimserver it manages to play it back.

Ive not seen any posts of others experiencing this problem, so I asumed that something may have gone wrong in the installation process. Uninstalling and reinstalling MM 3.0.1.1127 has made no difference. Also I,m afraid I cant be sure exactly when or in which version of MM3 I was last able to playback flac files as I have mostly been playing my music using slimserver for a long while now.

Any Ideas. :-?

Wierd, I haven't had any problems with playing FLAC files (have not tried ripping them as I don't use mm for ripping).

I am a first time user of MM and I have experienced the same problem as above, I also have Slimserver installed. MM has problems writing flac files to disc and playing them. The player seem to start, but immediately stops. MP3 seem to work. I have not tried other formats. I not using the gold version.

no problems here. Burned Flac and playback from d/l flac files is perfect.

No problem here. I used all MM3 beta versions for flac playback, including currently 3.0.1.1127. I don't use slimserver.

The only problem I got with flac is that crossover cannot be disabled (i.e. disabling it has no effect, very ugly for classical works)...

I'm having a similar problem with 3.0. It will only rip a few track to FLAC and then freezes. Drive keeps spinning and I receive a message saying the may be a DRM error. This happens with any CD audio.

Hi all,
after trying things like cleaning the registry, removing other audio players from my pc and re installing MM with no sucess, I :-
  • uninstalled MM3 again,
  • moved the media MM3 database ini file etc to a safe place
  • installed the current MM2 release and confirmed that flac files would play. They Did
  • installed the current MM3 release over MM2 and confirmed that flac files would still play. They Did and still do
  • Copied the MM3 database file saved earlier back over the new one
Problem solved :) although the mystery of why it went bad in the first place isn't :(

uhm, i've also noticed a problem with playing flac files... they worked flawlessly before in the early beta versions of monkey but now with the recent release candidates they've just been skipped over in the music library.

i should point out that they work without a problem in a few other media applications so the problem is related to monkey.

offtopic: i've also noticed that when i try to play cd's through monkey... there seem to be some kind of "clicking" noise during playback... this problem is also related to monkey since other programs have no problem playing the same cd's.

Root cause of FLAC files not playing in MM3?

Post by eversun78 »

I have also been experiencing these same problems with flac files in MM3, both v3.0.1.1127 and 3.0.2.1131(3.0.2 beta 2):

- tracks are skipped over and then grayed out in now playing

- CD ripping or conversion to flac fails with the error: "[destinationfile].flac was not successfully created". However a file is created in the correct location with the correct name but it is 0kb in size.

I have tried playing flac files from several sources (ripped from CD using Winamp, a download from a website, and a download from a file-sharing app). None have played in MM3, but all have played in Winamp and WMP(using the illiminable ogg codecs).

I also tried disabling the following: equalizer, playback volume leveling, and any DSP plugins, all to no avail.

If I convert the said flac files to wma using Winamp, the new wma file plays just fine in MM3.

Editing the flac tag data using MM3 has no effect on the above conditions.

Considering this previous post:

Anyone not upgrading from MM2.5 (or earlier with flac support) to MM3 might experience this problem. I uninstalled MM2.5 before installing MM3 and now can not play flac files.

OK. I tried the steps exactly as Baz described them above and I found the same results. I can now play flac files as I should. I examined the Program Files\Mediamonkey folder at the following stages:

- MM3 while flac files would not play (remember this was the result of basically doing a clean install of MM3 without any previous version of MM installed)

- After uninstalling MM3, deleting the program files\mediamonkey folder, and then installing MM2.5.

- After installing MM3 over the MM2.5 installation.

I found differences in the plugins folder. If one does a clean install of MM3 without any previous versions of MM installed, their plugins folder does not have the following files that are there if one installs MM3 over MM2.5:
- in_cda.dll
- in_CDReader.dll
- in_dsmp3
- in_flac

So, this must be the cause; without the in_flac.dll one will not be able to play flac files. The inability to rip a CD to flac may be due to the missing in_cda.dll and\or in_CDReader.dll. I never tried it, but one may not be able to rip a CD to any file type if missing the in_cda.dll and\or in_CDReader.dll files. These 2 missing files (cda and CDReader) may also explain media's clicking cd playback problem described in their post just previous to mine.

To fix this problem permanently, if I have diagnosed it correctly, the MM3 installation file needs to have the said missing files added to it.

Thanks to Baz for thinking to start all over from a MM2 installation!

MediaMonkey 3 will nor rip or play flac.

Post by Maaler »

I have a clean installation of MM3 that will not rip or play flac files. This is a problem as I planned to use MM3 to rip to my slilmserver and convert flac on the fly to mp3 to my ipod nano.

As an intermediate solution I have started to use lossless WMA instead of flac and this works fine.

However, to confirm that at a clean installation of MM3 does not work, I installed the same MM3 on my wifes computer (XP-home), and behold, it works perfectly! So that means there must be some software on my computer (XP prof.) the MM3 does not like (and there is a lot on my computer). So now I am trying to figure out what is the problem.

Any suggestions anyone?
