Locate Moved/Missing tracks not working

Let me tell you what happened first:

1. HD started acting funky
2. Freak out
3. Run to compusa to buy 250gig HD ($60, go rebates!)
4. Connect new HD and copy all music over (in win explorer)
5. Locate moved missing tracks - worked!
6. Attempt to delete defective drive, but maxtor utility deletes new one!!!!!! (both named [data 2]). I know I checked 20 times before hitting delete because I was worried exactly this would happen...
7. Cross fingers, pray, copy again (after placing old heatsink and fan on defective HD - twas overheating), this time using maxtor copy utility.
8. Locate moved missing tracks - does not work!

The files are fine, they work if I open them from windows explorer. The issue appears to be that the maxtor utility changed the modified date on the folders - though not the files - (bloody great) and now MM doesn't think they are the same.

Can anyone suggest any solutions? Perhaps this should be in need help rather than bugs (if so, mods. please move post), though I think MM might be a bit draconian in its file matching. I would rather not rescan my music as I lose some data if I do that.
