Please, is it possible to add a function to MM to allow it to sync a master library with a backup library
The situation is
I have a working library on my computer and a backup on the server (with a 2nd backup offsite). I occasionally make changes to the master library (most how things are stored, or some other improvement that has come up from usage, and would like to be able to maintain the backup as an exact replica of this, without the delete and recopy that I have been doing, which scares me with possible failure and data loss (though with 3 library there is always one not involved in a transfer, but still)
If there was an ability in MM sync feature to sync the entire library with another location, not unlike the sync services for ipod's etc. this would be great.
Thanks

Re: Sync Backup Library
While it would be nice to have this feature native in MM, you can already accomplish this with Trixmoto's Backup script or MoDementia's Database Export/Import Sync script.

Re: Sync Backup Library
You could use a sync software like the free Microsoft SyncToy to do this.
You could also use the VirtualCD to keep one copy (2nd copy would need to be synced otherwise).
You could setup a sync profile for any hard drive or network location like for a portable device.

To me, these scripts only maintain the DB, not the entire library, including track metadata. These are 2 physical libraries. Am i missing something in my understanding?nynaevelan wrote:While it would be nice to have this feature native in MM, you can already accomplish this with Trixmoto's Backup script or MoDementia's Database Export/Import Sync script.

Tried the synctoy but it does work correctly, maybe due to a large library or just Microsoft's designed use.Lowlander wrote:You could use a sync software like the free Microsoft SyncToy to do this.

Sync profile doesnt let me select a network location, which is where this request is coming from; for this to be offered as an option.
So for instance if metadata is changed in a track or album e.g. add lyics, change track number (02>2), or the way in which tracks are organised eg (artist name->disc name atrist)then a sync can be selected and the backup/reserve library will be changed to match.
If there is a script that does this and I am not getting, please help. But I have played with some scripts and they don't seem to do what I want.

You can map the network location to a drive and it should work. The ability to assign a network location would be a nice addition though.K1LL3M wrote:Sync profile doesnt let me select a network location

Re: Sync Backup Library
Can't you already map a network location using Windows, then use the d_usbmass1.dll to sync to that drive letter?K1LL3M wrote:Ok, so after now fine tuning exactly what it is I want, change this wish to enable network locations for the Sync device.

Re: Sync Backup Library
Yes you can, but still the ability to directly sync to a network locations would be a welcome addition.
