Re: android
Hey, I posted in another section about this because I'm looking for better implementation too, I'll just copy and paste the last part of what I said because I'm hoping to spread the word!
Anyway, I've been contacting the developers of most of the decent music apps for Android and only one got back to me and gave me some hope on the subject. Filipe Abrantes, the dev of 3 aka Cubed http://www.appbrain.com/app/org.abranti ... rockonnggl. This app happens to be my favourite of what's on offer, try it if you've got an Android device, its just the right mix of aesthetics and function for me.
He basically told me that he's taken it as a suggestion and would consider implementing it if enough people asked for it, so far its below a lot of other features on his list of priorities. Maybe if we can spread the word and round up the people on these forums who want this feature to contact him about it we could finally get this much needed feature and finally close the door to Apple's shiny prison of an eco-system!

Re: android
hi thanks for the reply.
i use cubed also... the dev i'm working with is responsible for MusicMod and fLockscreen. If we can get a working example going then other devs might be able to follow and make it compatible.
I'm struggling at the moment to work out what I need to do on the MM side of things though....

Re: android
I am confused. Are you looking to sync MM Music with your Android or just control MM from your Android?zombiefly wrote:hi thanks for the reply.

Re: android
Hey zombiefly, what exactly are you working on with this dev then? A music app capable of syncing with MediaMonkey?
Surely it just needs to be written in the Android app to read and write to the specific tags used by MM?
Nice to hear someone's working on something anyway!

Re: android
well at the moment there is an app called musicmod which is the standard player, enhanced.

We plan to add something to this to allow it to log the plays and then we can pick that up in MM. It hasnt progressed any further than planning stage in my head at the moment. It would be fantastic if the MM devs would step in at this moment and make something built in... its very simple to do in theory, especially now I can get the android side sorted...

Re: android
That sounds promising, appreciate you pushing things forward. Can't wait to try MusicMod when it becomes available on eclair too, it looks quite nice.
How have the MM devs responded to the suggestions of integrating this for the app?

i havent officially asked anyone. I just got the impression from some of the posts on the forums that it was never going to happen....

Re: android
Yeah, I got that too. It's a shame, you'd think securing a good working relationship with Android devices would be HUGELY beneficial to MM's mindshare amongst users that have no decent music management software for their devices, its a space waiting to be filled with a whole lot of users!
I'm no dev so forgive me if I sound naive but can't an Android app be written to read and write the specific tags MM already uses for playcounts and ratings?
And if that's not possible, maybe a script/addon for MM that knows what to look for from what meta-data has been changed by the Android App?

Re: android
Play counts are not stored in tags, ratings are though.

Add a vote for an android application / media player. Thanks!
Re: android
the problem is that generally music players dont alter the actual metadata in the files that are played. So what we need is a common interface between the player and the desktop app. Using a log file is the easiest way, the android player would log the information and MM would pick this up and merge it into the database on sync of the device.Jadjam wrote:Yeah, I got that too. Simple in theory. Simple if you are the developer of MM. Not so simple if you are outside of that loop
