Exact Audio Copy v1.0 Beta 3

Post by dypsis »

For all you users of Exact Audio Copy, there has finally been a new release.
I have actually moved on to dBpoweramp, but here is the info about it.

What’s new
September 22, 2011
- Added the CTDB (CUETools Database), which can test complete CD rips against an online checksum (like AccurateRip, but CD based) and submits error correction data which can be used by others on defective CDs with an external application.
- Fixed a problem with track duration in e.g. filename creation for the last track of a CD
- Using UNC paths will now work (again)
- Several database issues (e.g. max database size was 256 MB)
- Translations for the metadata plugins
- Sometimes the metadata provider plugins were not loaded
- In some cases the options window of the metadata plugins could not be opened
- Options of the freedb metadata plugin are not stored over EAC sessions (in some cases)
- LAME DLL produces defective, stuttering MP3s (bug exists since 1.0 beta 1!). By the way, it seems that only LAME.DLL (VC6 compiled) is compatible with EAC...
- Codec compression crashes/hangs EAC in some extraction modes when "Use multiple external compressors" is used
- CD Autostart deactivation should work now
- Fixed some writing to the wrong registry key
- Removed "No use of null samples for CRC calculations" (null samples are now always used for CRC)
- EAC does not activate Windows 7 system window shadows anymore
- Some drives were only extracting very slow, this should be fixed now (but in some rare cases, some drives might have started caching now)
- The possible command line parameters replacement strings are now listed in the appropriate tooltip
- Covers can be named freely using (nearly) the same replacement strings (also listed in the tooltip)
- If no email address was specified, the information dialog now offers to open the appropriate options page
- The freedb and GD3 plugins are now translated. The language used is the one selected in EACs options
- The beeping when the compression queue gets empty is only issued when the extraction has finished (thus only once per CD)
- Fixed a crash when writing ID3 tags with lyrics with a length greater than a few kb
- Fixed a crash when using CDs with 99 tracks (or around that limit)
- The dialog asking whether files should be overwritten is now displayed at the very beginning of the extraction and not at the time when a file would actually be overwritten.
- The overwrite information dialog is now also shown when overwriting a file using a commandline compressor (fixed bug)
- CD-Text extraction is nearly completly rewritten, can now also extract composer
- The taskbar icon will now show the status (green/red) until all status windows are closed
- The final tracknumber of the last CD are stored over EAC sessions, so it is possible to continue a CD tracknumbering from a previous run of EAC
- There are new placeholders for track number formatting in the command line parameters (%tracknr1%,%tracknr2% and %tracknr3%, the number is the minimum number of digits used)
- The EAC installer will now abort installation on Windows 2000 or previous versions (as they are not supported anymore anyway)
- Profiles from beta 1 and beta 2 can be loaded with this version (beta 2 could not load beta 1 profiles)

Even though I use dBpoweramp now, I still have EAC installed and may use it sometime. I found the previous version wasn't fully compatible with Windows 7, but maybe this update addresses the minor issues that I had with it.

So I upgraded to this version and found that my profiles wouldn't work with it, so I had to redo my profiles.

dypsis, thanks.
I too use dBpoweramp now although like you used to use EAC a lot.
Not tried EAC with Win 7 x64.
I'd be pleased to hear how you get on with this new version.
Always used to be the best program of its kind.

As long as your CD is in Accurip dbPowerAmp is a bit easier and possibly a tad better and is easier to use. It does depend too heavily on Accurip. EAC is a great tool and for free. What is there not to like. It your CD isn't in Accurip EAC is the only way to go.

Huh? What's the difference between EAC's use of AccuRip and DBPowerAmps use of it?

None. But if a disc isn't in the accuraterip database yet, EAC has better checks in place to ensure that your rip is perfect.

Anyone know how to select multiple Album Art in the Album Art search window for embedding in the file?

This is plain wrong.

-dBpoweramp is a AS GOOD as EAC in checking for errors. Even in secure mode it is also FASTER.

-dBpoweramp uses AccurateRip more efficiently by checking rips throughout the ripping process to see if the rip is accurate

It would be nice if MM would add AR support

So, you all seem to be up to date on the whole burning process. I spent weeks and weeks educating myself on how to use EAC with LAME and Accuraterip and Mareo, etc., etc., and then I promptly did . . . nothing.

Now, nearly three years have passed, and I'm pretty sure that everything I researched is way out of date. I've checked my main resource sites from before (Chris Myden dot com, Radified Guide to Ripping, etc) and they all seem to have gone completely unupdated in all of this time. I don't want to start from scratch, and I'd rather find a resource that pretty much lays out the best steps, programs and options, but that has kept up with the changing software and features.

So, do you all know of any good, UP TO DATE, one-stop-shop resources for teaching me how to take my large CD collection and get it all burned flawlessly to FLAC with VBR MP3 copies?

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Ha, ha, I used to study those sites too

Mikeyg, I think the principles they laid down are still true.
I still use EAC - I love the way it flicks out to dos and back, don't you :P
I still use LAME. And I use the latest - sometimes beta - versions.
Try it for yourself.

I ripped my CD library to FLAC a year or so ago. Can I (using MM4, when it's available, or anything else) check those files against the AccurateRip database? That is, can I check my FLAC files for correctness post-rip? (It seems I should be able to. It's just a question of whether there's anything that enables this.)

Alternatively, how does one access the AR database? Is there an AR API? I'm a developer, so I'd be willing to take it on as a little project, if no post-check solution currently exists. :)

MM4 already has AccurateRip verification implemented.
