iPhone 4 sync issues?

Post by negcreep80 »

Hi, hoping perhaps someone has had this issue already...unfortunately I have case of "should've left well enough alone"...

So, I'm using latest version of Mediamonkey Gold, WIndows 7 and I am syncing my 2 iPod classics and my iPhone 4. At first, I had no issues syncing any of my devices with MM. But for some reason, I wasn't happy that my iPhone would still have an old playlist from when I was syncing it with iTunes and I couldn't seem to delete it with MM. So, I thought I was being smart by opening up iTunes, and syncing my iPhone with iTunes to essentially get rid of the old playlists.

Unfortunately, MM apparently does not like that I did that, because now every time I connect with MM running, the iPhone shows up, but the name is followed by a whole bunch of gibberish and I soon as I even so much as click on it, MM locks up, freezes, "not responding", etc.

Any thoughts on this? I just find it strange that it was working perfectly fine before I tried to get rid of that one playlist. I can't do anything in the device configuration menu, i.e. I thought I could delete the .dll file and MM would automatically reinstall it...do I have to do this manually? Would greatly appreciate any advice on best way to get back to using MM for syncing my iPhone.

Try to sync a single file to the iPhone using iTunes. This sometimes fixes things.

Lowlander, thanks very much for the response and the tip...per your advice, I was able to sync a single track just fine with iTunes to my iPhone. In iTunes, I left the setting checked to "Manually manage music", right?

Unfortunately, no change when I open Mediamonkey and connect my iPhone...name still has been changed to a bunch of gibberish and as soon as I click it, MM freezes. Is there a profile stored somewhere for the iPhone in Mediamonkey directory that may be corrupt and I have to manually delete? I'm just at a loss for why it was working fine before syncing to iTunes, and now it's no go.

But thanks! And if you have any other thoughts or suggestions, I'm all ears.

Cheers.

As I try to get to the bottom of this, is there anything to the fact that when I go into options, under the Portable/Devices section, I cannot delete the d_iPhone.dll or seemingly do anything with the file, but I can with the files pertaining to iPod...did something get corrupt? How can I fix that file?

You can't delete it from the options, but you should be able to click the "Configure" button.

Bumping my thread...took a break from the issue for a few weeks and just tried it again, but still the same result. I appreciate all the help so far, and wonder if anyone else has any other ideas. I just don't get why it would work fine for the longest time, and then just by opening iTunes once, all hell breaks loose for the iPhone and MediaMonkey.

As a last resort, I suppose I could reinstall Mediamonkey and see if that clears everything up? Or would that fail to fix the root cause of the issue?

Thanks again in advance!

Thanks...I can get to the configure option just fine, but once there, I can't seem to actually "configure" anything. And just to follow up with this (and as a point of comparison), when I connect my Ipod Classics, I can click on them without MM locking up, and can change the name of the iPod, but I can't seem to even change the name of iPhone with all the gibberish...I have a screen grab that I'll try to post somewhere since I guess I can't upload an image file to this board.

Does anyone have a device profile for an iPhone 4 that I can import to get them to talk to each other? Or is that asking for trouble?

Mediamonkey is 4.0.6.151...portable install (which wasn't a problem before, but now perhaps?)

iTunes is 10.6.3.25

iPhone is iOS 5.1.1

Hey guys, still determined to make this work...I had hope that by updating my iPhone 4 to iOS6, updating iTunes to latest, and trying the new beta version of MM, 4.0.7.1502, something would change, but it's still the same...iPhone shows up as a bunch of gibberish, can't remove it from the Devices tab, and as soon as I connect it, causes MM to freeze :(

Any chance that a fresh install will do the trick? I can't imagine there's anything corrupted in my iPhone since I did the update, but who knows. If I go the fresh install route, how do I ensure all my library, playlists, ratings, etc. stay in place. Haven't been able to find a step-by-step guide in the forums on how to do this.

Thanks in advance!
