How I got Milkdrop 2.0c to work with MediaMonkey 3.1x:

Note - this might work for later versions of WinAmp/Milkdrop - but 2.0c was the one I saw working above, so it's the one I tried. If you get the latest one working please let me know so I can switch to that... I'm using WinXP Pro - no idea what the file structures will be in Vista or etc.

Close MediaMonkey before starting.

1) Download and install WinAmp 5.51. This is *not* the latest version, it might work with the latest, no idea about that - you'll have to find this one somewhere other than the winamp website.

2) Open winamp and configure MilkDrop2 in winamp. This will create some config files in some location similar to: C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Application Data\Winamp\Plugins

3) Copy the files below to your MediaMonkey\plugins\ folder from the folder above:
milk2.ini - milk2_adapters.txt - milk2_img.ini - milk2_msg.ini

4) Copy vis_milk2.dll and the Milkdrop2 folder from your winamp plugins directory into your MediaMonkey plugins directory.

5) Copy nscrt.dll from your main winamp programs directory to your main MediaMonkey program directory.

6) Modify your MediaMonkey.ini ( C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\MediaMonkey ) - search for the line that begins: VisPluginFileName= and set the whole line to "VisPluginFileName=vis_milk2.dll"

7) Open MediaMonkey - you should now have an option for MilkDrop 2.0 in the list of visualizations.

No idea why you need nscrt.dll but I tried changing the mediamonkey.ini file to use the milk2 stuff without it and it complains - so I gave it what it wanted.

It's possible that not all of these steps are necessary - but this is what I did and it appears to have worked. Thank you solaris for the screenshots, they helped a lot.

I followed all of the instructions, and have MilkDrop mostly working in MM4.

However the plug-in does not seem to be paying attention to the maximum FPS that I've set (24). It's staying up around 60fps the whole time.

I set all of the options I wanted within WimAmp, then I copied the milk2.ini file over as instructed. I can read milk2.ini in notepad and see that the values are set correctly there.

I had this working on my previous Windows installation, but my motherboard died so I had to reinstall a few days ago. On the old installation I had upgraded from 3 to 4; I think that's the only major difference here.

Any pointers from anyone? I'm a huge fan of visualizations, I was really hoping to get this working properly with my great new graphics card. :)

Also, I am noticing that in MediaMonkey, when I click on "Configure" for MilkDrop2, the resulting dialog box does not have any display adapters listed in the 3 drop-down list boxes (one for Desktop, one for Fullscreen, one for Windowed). The lists are empty. In Winamp the lists are correct.

I got my display adapter to show up in the list box, I copied the dll file it was asking for into the MM plugins directory. (ATI card - aticfx32.dll)

But it's still not limiting the frame rate to 24fps. I don't think any of the other settings are sticking either.

Hi,
Just for test I tried this and it worked without any issues on My PC except Desktop Mode.

I didn't needed to do step 6 at all.

Can anyone else confirm whether their FPS limiting is working? And whether they're seeing their video card listed in the drop-down for Display Adapter?
