Hi guys,
MM offers great way to save various cover pics per album/track. But ever since very poor support to actually select and show them.
We save various cover pics per album/track. Like cover front, back, inside, media labels, booklet pages and so on. Normally we like to see the front cover in the cover pic area, but regularly we need to flip to the CD back cover in order to research details of the CD. It was already kind of poorly implemented in MM4, but now in MM5 I can switch between pics only through context menus using several clicks per image?!
I have always felt that there should be something like an album cover browser (not for various albums, but various cover picture stored for one album/track). Like having arrows allowing to fllip through the saved pictures within a given track.. I had discussed this for MM4 and it was said that since MM5 is in developpment they don't consider to improve that in MM4.
But so far it got worse compared to MM4. At least there was only one click over context menu, or a kind of lousy mouse scroll wheel support which never really worked for us..
Since it's still beta, I do hope that this is a feature eventually is going to be improved...

Hi,
do you mean this Images menu: https://www.dropbox.com/s/xie3udvn71nl0 ... 6.png?dl=0 ?
Maybe a hotkey to show this menu would be the fastest way to switch images?

Re: [REQ] Browse through various cover pics saved per album/track
well, it takes three clicks to get there and then you might not know which picture you need to see. Imagine you need to go through many of them to find what you are interested in.. Or just to take a look at all the images being available. It is simply not possible via a context menu.
There is a highly sophisticated and configurable whole system in place what tag info to be shown and how to edit - something which I don't consider really usefull as all of that information is easy to edit on the track listing. But the one thing which is needed and special for working with the cover pics - changing them - is missing.
I don't understand why there cannot be some links/arrows GUI elements at the cover pic to flip through those pics - like in ANY interface showing a set of pictures no matter if off or online. If there is more than one picture in tags - just put an element/link/arrow which you can use to flip through those pics in order to find easily what you are looking for. That's way more simplen than this way over multiple context menus which does not make any sense to me...

Re: [REQ] Browse through various cover pics saved per album/track
ok, then a shortcut to Properties> Artwork tab could help as a workaround?
But maybe you are looking for a lister that will show the images in higher resolution, not just the smaller thumbs?
Then yes, something like the arrows suggested by you might be useful, propably just in the "Artwork only" layout of Preview window (as in this layout there isn't the properties overlay).
EDIT: Could be probably easily added by a script, but I also added it as a native feature request: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=17078

Re: [REQ] Browse through various cover pics saved per album/track
Well, to me it is the most important and natural feature I could think of for the "Art & Details" view to actually view/show the available covers. I don't know why in that dedicated view it is actually not really possible to switch through the available pictures easily. (but highly configure what and how to view all kind of otherwise details..)
Hotkey to the properties-artworktab: Kind of works, but I'd rather not go there on a regular basis as it is quite simple to touch a wrong thing there and have album cover arts F*** up for the selected tracks.. The use case is asking for VIEWING the cover arts and not EDIT them.. Therefore we should not have to go into the tab to edit cover arts just in order to view them in a effecient way...
Maybe it helps to describe my use case in order to understand why this is such a big missing thing for us - I using MM professionally on a huge tango music archive. So I am using 95% of the available space/screen to show a detailled list of tracks and all their tags in up to 25 columns.
In a small corner I use the cover preview area to have a visual reference on which CD/album/track I am working on. Sometimes in order to tag the tracks - like figuring out artists or composers I need to take a look at the booklet pages, or backside of the CD. Since we scan all the cover sides and booklet pages those are saved in there. So while working/tagging I need to figure out which of the cover pictures is showing the necessary info. Best way would be to easily flip through the available pictures right in the cover preview area. When I know which one provides the info I need to open it in full size in an additional window - like it opens now. Then read the info and tag accordingly.
Alternatively it would work to to have an easy way to flip through the pictures while being in the full sized cover view window. But there are no controls whatsoever there. It just shows the picture.
In MM 4 there was something like ths almost in place. The covers in art view changed when scrolling the mouse wheel.. It just did not work well with the mouse wheel not changing pics but then 3 in a time - it was a pain in the ass and not usefull in the end. A simple thing to click would have done the trick just fine.
So the feature requested is a cover-pictures-gallery-control thingy - like the regular arrows shown in various picture galleries - in order to easily and effenciently flip through the available pictures. That could be within the cover preview area - where at the moment all those tag infos are shown on top - so why not controls for the covers themselves?! - Or within the dedicated window to show the cover in full size.

Re: [REQ] Browse through various cover pics saved per album/track
FYI: This functionality has been added in build 2275.
i.e. there are the arrows to flip through the images like in an image gallery. You just need to switch to 'Artwork only' layout in the Preview window.

Re: [REQ] Browse through various cover pics saved per album/track
Fantastic! I'll give it a try.
I am afraid it's going to take a lot of time until we can move to MM5 for production as several other important features are missing (most of them provided by 3rd party scripts for MM4), but I appreciate a lot that you consider and implemented this new function! I think that's a great improvement for anyone who is using more than just a front cover... : )
