Multiple MMW

Post by Marksaunders23 »

Hi,

Is there a way to have MMW running on multiple PCs, using the same library. These would be on the same network. Currently I have my main PC which has my MM library on it. To run my music in another room I duplicate the entire library (files and settings) on another PC and run it from there. This means I need to periodically update that PC with the files and settings from the main PC.

What I would like to do is for the second PC to use the files from my main PC so that both MMW are the same at all times. Is there a way to do this? I recall there was a MM server a while back but it had bugs at the time.

Any advice appreciated!

Hi Mark,

I run two copies of MMW on two PCs on the same network by keeping a copy of the whole library on each computer using the same disk letter and folder structure. The structure on both PCs is set with an Organise / Auto-Organise mask i.e.

M:\$if(<Type>=TV, <Type>\<Series>\<Season #>\, $if(<Type>=Video, <Type>\, <Type>\<Album Artist>\<Album>\))\<Title>

I keep things synchronised using Salty Brine's Folder Match as it has a number of useful options.

The new PC runs MMW5 whilst the old runs both MMW5 and MMW4. This means I can - for example - use Lyricator within MMW4 and send the files back to the new PCs then rescan to expose the new Lyrics found by MMW4. Since the "foldermatch" checks the size / date / time of the files to sync traffic is quite minimal.

One benefit of this approach is that I have a back-up of my library.

Thanks both, I'm going to try them and see how I go! Appreciate the responses, even just knowing others have made solutions work is encouraging :)
