Turning shuffle off not unshuffling

Hi,

I have an issue unshuffling. I order my music by artist, then album. If I select shuffle and then double click a song, it will play and then follow the shuffled list as expected, all good. However, if I then turn off shuffle, I get a message saying it can't unshuffle: "Shuffle disabled. Unable to unshuffle due to edits - use 'Undo' to revert changes to the 'Playing' list." The result is that turning off shuffle does not turn it off, it continues to follow the shuffled list.

This issue does not present itself if I double click a song when shuffle is unselected. I can then select shuffle, deselect it and it will play in the artist, album order.

I'm not sure if it is relevant or not, but in Settings, Layout, 'Playing' list, all I have is a message saying "'Playing list' not found".

Any help appreciated! I know shuffle was changed a little while back so perhaps this is a feature not a bug but it doesn't quite make sense to me.

You added files Shuffled, thus they can't be unshuffled. Disabling Shuffle returns files to the original order in the Playing, there is no original order if they were added shuffled.

Is this a (relatively) new change then? I have always viewed my music in the order of artist and then album. If I was using shuffle previously it would shuffle through the 'Playing' view, moving across the whole library, but if I unpressed shuffle, it would simply play the next song after the current one, i.e. the next song in the album of whatever song happened to be playing. That no longer happens and instead what I described in my post happens.

Do you know if this is intentional? From my perspective I've lost functionality.

Shuffle was changed in MediaMonkey 2024 to basically what Randomize used to be in MediaMonkey 5 and older. Previously it would randomly pick from the Playing queue, now it randomized the queue and plays in order of the queue.

Oh okay, at least I know. Does that explain the "'Playing' list not found" in Settings>Layout>'Playing' List too?

I'm sure the change in how shuffling operates is for good reason but I'm not sure it's well explained - at least for me it was hard to ascertain that the change was deliberate.

Are you saying you don't see it there? It's still available.

Yes exactly - sorry if I wasn't clear. In settings, when looking at the 'Playing' list tab the only text in the right hand panel of the settings window is " 'Playing' list not found! ". That's it, nothing else at all.

Is there a MM file I should be looking at, where this setting is defined?

Is it 'Playing' list enabled under Tools > Options > Layout? If not, enable it and restart MediaMonkey.

I'm using the Metro M skin. That lists 'Playing' List as an availabe element so it's configured in MMW. Really not sure what is causing this issue. However, I thought it might be related to my main issue in this thread around unshuffling, which it clearly is not. So in that case I don't think this 'issue' actually causes any problems, just a bit odd?

Please retest whenever you update to MediaMonkey 2024.2.
