I'm really scared...

Post by rrfpacker »

Hi everyone,

I last used MM yesterday, I'm using version 4.1.31.1919, portable.

Today I clicked on my short cut like normal and MM opened up like it was a brand new install; all of my stuff is gone. All of it.
What do I do now? I can see on my computer under portable the data base but the media monkey configuration settings has zero kb. The data base shows a date of yesterday and I think the time I shut down.

Losing all my playlists would be a disaster. What do I do now?
Thank you!

I think the .ini is empty. Could that be the problem?

Hi,
Close MM, and add these two lines in "Portable\MediaMonkey.ini" and start MM again.

Code: Select all

[Portable]
IsPortable=1

The .ini file was empty on Sunday, now it has a bunch of stuff in it along with what you told me.

I clicked on my normal shortcut and the MM I don't want still opens. It says version 4.1.31.1919 but it is completely empty of my library and playlists. It looks like a brand new install and the database that was there Sunday, that was 428,714 kb was gone and one with a lot less kb was there.

Update;
Now, after I closed everything down and looked in the Portable folder again, the .ini is empty. I entered what you said, moved a copy of the data base over and now it works. Everything seems to be ok except I'm missing a lot of stuff on the toolbar and Monkey Rok shows up everytime I start up, so if that's all I have to fix I am eternally grateful.

Thank you so much.

Hi,
It was my pleasure. IF you get occasional clearing of folder, please check if some PC cleaner app falsely clean MM folder?

Also update to MM 2024 should make this obsolete as you can Backup DB on daily basis automatically and manually whenever you want.

Thank You, Peke. And thanks to anyone who reads this that helps us out.

The only thing I've noticed that's missing now is Magic Nodes. But if I want that I can just install it.

The reason I've not upgraded to MM5/MM 2024 is because, if I remember correctly, none of the scripts from MM4 worked in MM5. Is that still the case?

Yes, that remains the case. Some developers have created MMW5+ variants of their Addons though.

ok, here's something weird and I think it's still related to whatever happened on 2/1/25.

I noticed today when I went to make a copy of my database that Windows shows the last modified date as 2/1/25...the day my mediamonkey world imploded. Shouldn't that date change every time I use and close MM?

Everything I do, like create a playlist or rate songs, seems to be there when I reopen.

I'm still on the last version of MM4.

Thank you!

Last Modified should update for mm.db when you make changes to files or Playlists in MediaMonkey.

Thank you; so is that a Windows issue?

Could be, but it may be that you're using a different database file. This was an issue with MediaMonkey 4.
