How to force Sync??

Post by mwonch »

I use the MM desktop. I have for a very long time. Since upgrading this year with Windows 11 and the newest version of MM, somehow my phone is not recognized. Not for wifi, not for bluetooth, not for USB. I connect to the computer and it is as if the phone just is not there. Used to be it would read the connection and automatically sync.

Heck, didn't there used to be a SYNC option somewhere in case auto didn't work? I think I remember that. But...I no longer have that.

So, with a new Windows 11, how exactly do I get sync'd to MM Desktop?

I use the Samsung MP3 player and had no issues before this. Please advise.

Hi,
For WiFi connection usually case is that Phone do not see MMW server running by either due the firewall setting or that are not on same WiFi network or network is set to public or MM server is not started.

For USB usually on newer phones require that on the phone connection is changed from charging to file transfer.

Bluetooth connection is not designed for sync files (too slow even it was used).

I do it USB, which was perfect in V4. This new version does not even read the phone even when switched to File Transfer. I have even disabled all connection between phone and computer. All of it. Still not working.

I use Android phone to play the files, transfer FROM the computer (not to). I see no option for such a server on the desktop. Am I blind? Probably. There is a MediaMonkey Library set to an IP address and specific port. Is that it? If so, there is already a firewall exception set. It is active. It will not access, even after changing ports (some message about a JSON file issue - whatever that means). If I need to change port AND IP, I have no idea to what. So, I guess Wifi is out. I do not want to broadcast anyway. Do I really have to have MM for Android, too? Why?

USB won't work. V4 won't work on Win11.

I don't know how to fix this, and your help files seem geared toward the Android version (which I do not have installed since I already have a player that used to play nice with your product). Why is transferring files for playlists so hard now? I've been using this program in it's various forms since the early days of Windows 7, so I hope you can understand the sheer frustration in not being able to do now what was so simple beforehand. I loved this program. I want to still love it.

Hi,
if you go to 'Devices & Services' node and click '(show all)' to show all profiles and then scroll down, is your device there as 'Disabled' ?

Both the phone and it's SD card are listed but read as Disconnected. There is no obvious way to connect. I assume this is the issue. How do I connect them? USB, transfer files only, yet no connection (but MM is somehow aware of them).

Okay. So, I tried reinstalling MM4, which was the last version to properly sync. Then again, that was back with my old Windows 7 computer. Now it's Windows 11. Amazingly, I am having the same issue with 4. This is obviously something happening (or not happening) on my end. I cannot resolve this between MM2024, MM4 and Windows 11 Pro. The help documents here are detailed, but there is no resolution there, either.

Do I really have to install MM for Android to get even the old version to work with 11?

Generally you need to put the USB connection on the phone in File Transfer or MTP mode (it's a safety feature). When the phone is connected via a USB from notifications on the phone you should see a USB connected notification, tap that to adjust the USB connection.

I did. Nothing. No change, no connect. I do have a File Transfer, nothing like MTP, though.

These are my choices:

1. Transferring Files / Android Auto

2. Software Update

3. MIDI

4. Transferring Images

5. Charging Phone Only

Samsung A35, which had no issues on Win7, MM4. On Win11, even MM4 won't work. On MM2024, the phone and SD card both read as DISCONNECTED (not Disabled - I can disable and reenable but cannot sync). Nothing at all on MM4.

Make sure you set the USB connection on the phone to option 1 transferring files. This is something you may need to do each time you connect the phone. You'll likely also need to unlock the phone when you connect it to allow access to the storage on the phone from the PC.

I have no locks on the phone. I always change the USB connection to Option 1 when connecting.

The only thing I can think of is (unlike Win7) Win11 allows wireless connection to the phone. I did turn that off to test possible interference from that function. Still nothing. I tried that path with 2024, but not MM4.

As mentioned above, MM2024 knows the phone and card are there. I was able to disable then reenable with no problem. They just will not connect thus the Sync option is inactive. For MM4, it reads all of my external hard drives and the one virtual hard drive without delay, but not at all the phone itself. I tried changing USB ports from the front of the computer to the back, didn't work. All but pone external hard drives are USB connected. Could that be the issue (too many connections)? It would be nice if it's that simple. LOL

Kind of. In the far left side of the Explorer pane, it is listed with all my other drives just above the THIS PC icon. It is not listed in the main drive list window.

Please capture the connecting of the device to the PC in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643
