Has anyone imported music data from the Music Collector software program?

Make sure that things are save to the file tags and MediaMonkey should read this form tags on scan.

Sorry for being a bit dense but I'm still not sure what I do here! I can export my music collection to a CSV (and hence into Excel) or XML file including as many fields as I want (including tags although these appear blank unfortunately!) but then what do I do to import this file as I can only see options to choose folders on my hard disk containing the music files (eg MP3, FLAC) . My original Music Collector database (maintained over 15 years) has not only songs on my hard drive but crucially also details of over 100 vinyl LPs (obviously no physical presence on my PC) as well as cover images for them all. In total over 1200 albums (and over 16000 tracks)!

MediaMonkey itself can't do anything with this. So only items stored in tags can be read on scan.

However through the creation of an Addon you could read from CVS or XML. No such Addon exist currently as far as I'm aware.

Possible workaround? There is an option in Music Collector 'Update Tags From Database' which I believe will write the music file tags from Music collector data. I don't know what fields it will populate (couldn't find any info on this?), but I imagine it will be only basic info. If you successfully write tags to your digital files in Music Collector, then point MediaMonkey to your digital files, it will read the tag info and populate your new database.

Be sure to backup all of your data before experimenting!

I've used Music Collector (PC desktop version) for many years, but only for cataloging 'physical' media, never tried tagging any digital files with it, so I have no experience here. I've also been using MediaMonkey for many years for all my digital files and continue to use Music Collector for all my physical media. Like you, I have entered a lot of data about my 'physical' CD/LP collection in Music Collector which I don't think there really is a place for in digital files.
