Ultimately I am looking to populate the BPM in all songs. Also, I have a Grouping field that I want to contain certain things: Mood, Vocal, Performance, Tempo, Sub-Genre, Era. I have a list of approved values for everything but Sub-Genre.
Era would be a value such as 1980s, 1950, etc. The rule of thumb is that if the artist is the original recording artist, the decade is the original recording year. If it is a cover of another song, then the recording year is the release of the cover.
Vocal values are limited to Male Vocal, Female Vocal, Duet, Mixed, Instrumental.
Mood has a longer list.
Performance is just things like Cover, Live, Remix, or Studio.
Tempo is determined by the BPM.
Sub-Genre is anything more specific or descriptive that the approved genres (which I also have a list for).
I see that there are Tempo and Mood fields already, but they do not get auto-tagged. I could make custom fields for the other four fields. But, again, I have no way to fill them in through auto-tagging. If I could get that far, I would then like a command to concatenate them into Grouping.
Is that possible?

Re: [REQ] Populate BPM and Custom fields
Style (sub-genre) is being tracked here: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=21655
BPM requires an external tool to calculate, for example you can use Mixxx. Tempo based on BPM can be done with the SetTempo Addon.
Original Date can be used to set the original release date of the track.
The following lookup Addons are available in addition to Auto-Tag: https://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/brow ... -lookup-1/

Re: [REQ] Populate BPM and Custom fields
Thanks for your reply. How do you set original track date?
Re: [REQ] Populate BPM and Custom fields
I'm not sure there is an automated method. I personally do it manually from the CD.

Thank you.
I'm starting to feel like MM5 is more limited than I remember MM4 being way back when. (I am old enough to use that phrase unironically.)

MM4 uses different reference database from third party plugin that can't be natively used in MM5+ due the licensing issues.jennylynne wrote: ↑Mon Feb 16, 2026 8:04 pm Thank you.

Re: [REQ] Populate BPM and Custom fields
MM4 lost it's included auto-tagging a long time ago, so in that sense MM5 was an improvement.
MM4 had more third party Addons for tagging though.
