Unable to change FILE PROPERTIES

Post by ToolMan_91 »

Hi!

I moved my MM files to a new Windows 11 computer following the MM instructions. I am using MM 2025.2.0.3184 and I have a Gold License. I upgraded the old computer to the same version before backing up the database.

All of the files are on the new computer and I have updated their new locations. I had to change the drive letter for the new media library on the new computer but otherwise the file structure is the same.

I can play every file I have tried and there doesn't seem to be any crazy duplicates or missing files.

I tried to add a new file to MM and this is when I discovered that I can't make any updates to any of the file properties that have drop down arrows for any of the existing files, or the new one.

How do I fix this?

Thanks!

What's the full path of such a file?

Lowlander,

Are you asking for the full file path to one of the files?

f:\Music\Beastie Boys\Ill Communication\06 - Sabotage.flac

On the old Windows 10 machine it was an m:\ drive. Please enlighten me, how does the path to the file matter when all the files are present and account for in MM?

Did the data base get changed to read only? Is that even possible?

Thanks!

Then the files/folders/drive may be read-only. It wouldn't be the database.

Is the drive an internal or external drive?

Lowlander,

I checked the files and they were not read-only. I did a couple checks adding files to the file structure then editing and saving the changes, to make sure there wasn't a strange inherited permission that was locking everything. No issues read/write/modify the files on the K drive.

For no reason or action I can determine, I can now edit the file properties.

I have a different problem now that I can do some file maintenance. When I try and delete a file, the screen flashes and an empty white dialog box appears in the center of the screen. I think this is the confirm delete question. I have to hit escape to get out of it and the file does not delete.

Any thoughts?

Thank you,

With MediaMonkey closed, can you please rename persistent.json to persistent.json.old, then start MediaMonkey? Does the same still happen?

Lowlander,

I have changed the name of the file as you asked and it didn't change anything.

The original problem is back. I can no longer make any adjustments to any of the file properties that have a drop down list. To investigate if the files were read only, I adjusted the star ratings on a couple files and those changes worked.

Are there any options that may be set wrong causing these problems?

Thanks,

Are drop-downs not working (ie. can select a value) or when you select a value it isn't saved?
