Filter By Name Of Month [#22272] [#22271]

Post by Chep »

I have music by an artist that is seasonal and the dates are month (name) year (number) format (e.g., February 2023 or September 2025).

I want to make an auto playlist that filters by the month so I only play say, for instance, Spring songs ... or just Summer songs.

Starting with the artist (search All Music, Match All, Artist Equals) results in a list of all the songs by that artist. Great. I now want to say, “out of these, only show me from April” (or any other month). But no amount of any additional field gets these results .. the list just goes from All Songs to no songs at all.

I’ve tried Date or Any Text, but can’t get this to work.

Suggestions?

Hi,
Can you attach screenshots of track properties that you would like filter out, so that we can figure what fields you use and what is the field metadata format?

Hi,
Yes they help and I see the problem.

You set Date as String instead of Numeric date which current MM do not support in Date filtering.

added as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=22271 and also https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=22272 for future usage in case that you accept my suggestion to switch to Numeric date (like 10.1998.) format in order to be able to use DATE criteria searches.

You can ATM change Regional Short date format (search REGION Settings) in windows and then you have option to Change "Additional Date time settings" where Additional Settings allows you to Customize short format to "MMMM yyyy" Which will format all Windows short dates to "October 1989" which includes MM Date Column even Values are in numeric format.

Thanks, I think I understand. So you're saying that instead of August 2026 I would enter 08/2026? If that's the case, and I still want to filter my auto playlist to (as an example) only show tracks from August (08), what rule would I create to do this? If I enter "contains 8" this might also pick up the year numbers 1988, 1998, 2008, etc .... Figured filtering a very specific word ("August") would get around this, ergo using names in dates to begin with.

Thanks for any suggestion you might have,

Hi,
I updated my above answer.

But to answer. My regional short format is "dd.MM.yyyy." Which Result MM columns show "24.10.1996." but if I change system short format to "MMMM yyyy" then it shows "october 1996" Date column and in Advanced search/AutoPlaylists Date column and I can use DATE -> between -> 01.09.2001;01.10.2001 to filter October tracks in 2001. and MM will show them as "september 2001" If you change all "August " text to "08/" then you can use Date filter without issue.

Okay, I see where you’re going with this. (side note, I don’t care if August is represented as ‘August’ or ‘08’, I’m not that picky)

So I tried a Between for [January 2025] and [February 2025] and that worked ... all songs with dates of either January or February in 2025 filtered down. Great.

However -

I want to see ALL January release songs, not just the ones in 2025 (these songs go back decades) - but when I stripped off the year in both Between fields, the filtering went away.

How do I filter for a month(s) for ANY year?

Thanks,

Thanks,
The only way is to wait till the next MediaMonkey 2027 release, I expanded the filtering capabilities today ;-)
