Sudden 'grant access/permissions' error

Post by tbm72 »

Out of nowhere MMA today now started asking me to grant permissions for playlists and video folder access even though I've already set all this up ages ago:

When I try to use any folder on my internal storage it gives me this error that I can't even fully see and won't let me access the storage:

I don't even use my internal storage for storing any media and would rather not even have to select it in MMA (everything is on the external SD card) but there doesn't seem to be an option to not use internal storage, even if it doesn't sync to it. Can't I just not use internal storage and not have to set any folders for it?

This came out of the blue today and to be honest MM in general feels like it's in its most unstable and buggy iteration in all the years since I've been using it.

Now it keeps on 'scanning folders for media':

It's done this scan 3 times in a row now (47,000 tracks!). As soon as it's finished it starts again. Don't know why all these issues have suddenly started?

Never mind, think I've finally fixed it now.

Note: for anyone else seeing this issue, it can occur if Android revokes permissions when MMA hasn't been used in awhile. You can prevent this by tap-holding MMA > Information > disable 'Remove permissions if app is unused'.

If Android does happen to revoke permissions, such issues will be highlighted in MediaMonkey > Options > Library & Sync > Choose Library folders (and can be fixed there as well).

I tried this and also all the steps listed here (https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... s-sd-card/) but none of it worked.

The way I fixed it was I had to manually create the folders 'Music', 'Playlists' and 'Video' in my internal storage using an Android file manager even though I don't sync anything to my phone's internal storage (it's all stored on my external SD card). Not sure why you're forced to have these folders on internal storage if you never sync anything from MM to internal storage?

Also it wasn't because I hadn't used MMA in a while - I use it every day.

Here's what likely occurred:
- you inadvertently _enabled_ synchronization of internal storage even if you never performed a sync operation to internal storage. This triggered the need for the /Playlists etc. folders.
- failed folder creation from within MMA was because it was attempted at /MediaMonkey/Playlists etc. (instead of at /Playlists etc.)

These issues should no longer occur with 2.0.5 (recently released and currently slowly rolling out).

Thanks!

I already appear to be on MMA 2.0.5.1245. How do I completely remove my Internal Storage from MMA as I never sync anything to/from it? Everythting is stored on my SD card (labelled Superior Pro in my screenshot) so Internal Shared Storage doesn't need to be there at all:

At the moment I'm forced to create folders for MMA on my internal storage that I have no use for.

You can disable the sync profile for Internal storage via:
MMA > Options > Library & Sync > Internal Shared Storage [Settings] > switch the toggle off

That'll eliminate the need to have these folders created.

I just tried to do as you said and switched that toggle off for Internal Storage but now it's added even more extra folders (Mediamonkey Storage/Music and Mediamonkey Storage/Video):

It's now also brought up that storage permissions request again:

In the end it looks like I have to manually create the folders for Music, Playlists and Video on my internal storage to prevent that permissions warning, even though I never sync anything to them. I'll just leave it at that.
