Major issue with 8,000+ album art

Post by meatsean »

Hi everyone,

I’m currently running MediaMonkey Gold 2024.1.0.3113.

I can see all album artwork perfectly fine in my Library, but when I sync my music to my smartphone, none of the artwork appears.

To troubleshoot, I did a sample check:

Highlighted an album → Right-click → Properties → Artwork tab.

Here’s what I found:

Some albums show that artwork exists but the image is not saved.

Others show no artwork at all.

A few have a blank image placeholder (no actual artwork).

So my question is: How can I fix my artwork so it’s properly embedded into the music file tags?

I tried downloading the Album Art Tagger 5.2 add-on, but the file won’t download.

If all the artwork displays correctly in my MediaMonkey library, why doesn’t it sync to my smartphone?

Any suggestions or workarounds would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

In MediaMonkey, album art can be stored in a few different ways:
1) 'unsaved' this is when the artwork has been automatically looked up, but not saved.
2) saved to tag (i.e. embedded within the track itself)
3) saved to the track's directory (i.e. saved but not within the track)

My suspicion is that the tracks in question have 'unsaved' artwork and that's why it doesn't appear when synced.

Case 1) can occur if 'Options > Library > Metadata lookup > Background metadata lookup has been enabled for 'Artwork' but not the 'Update tags' option. In such cases, artwork for tracks will appear in the MM library with a 'Save' icon indicating that the artwork has been cached but not saved.

There are a couple of ways to fix this:
a) If you click the 'Save' icon on each album with 'Unsaved' artwork, it'll save according to your preferences configured in Tools > Options > Tags & Playlists : Artwork (i.e. to the tag or to the directory).
b) To lookup artwork for all tracks that are in this state, go to Music > Files to Edit > Unknown Artwork, select all the tracks that appear, and use the 'Auto-tag' tool to lookup/edit artwork.

Does that help?

Thanks for the earlier suggestions — I’ve added them to my notes. When I didn’t get a response in time, I went ahead and restored a backup, which solved the artwork issue.

However, I’ve run into a new problem. When I sync my library to my Pixel 7, hundreds of tracks show up as “Unknown” in the Musicolet app. A friend suggested that this might be caused by MediaMonkey writing tags in ID3v2.4, which Musicolet doesn’t handle properly.

I’ve tried searching but can’t find a way to view a complete list of all file tags in MediaMonkey.

My questions:

1. How can I generate or view a list of all the file tag versions currently used in my MediaMonkey library?

2. What’s the easiest way to convert or rewrite tags to earlier versions — specifically ID3v1 or ID3v2.3?

Any tips or step-by-step guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the links. But, what is the name of the Property Field in Media Monkey's database that contains file tag versions specifically ID3v1 and ID3v2.3?

Hi,
There is no property tag showing which version is saved in files. That is saved in MP3 file itself.
NOTE: ID3v1.1 is at the end of file and Version of ID3v2.x is at the beginning. They do not overlap.
