What happened to the standard-skin?[MM3]

Post by da wool »

I've just downloaded and installed the latest beta. Though it's kind of promising there's one apspect I dislike very much: What's with that skin!?
It is really a no-go for me. Maybe it's because it reminds me too much of the WMP11 ;) or even Amarok.

I did not buy MediaMonkey for EyeCandy but functionality -- so why isn't there a function to "downgrade".
(And no, it does not work for me in blue or that orange.)

And BTW: I want that Smiling-Monkey-Icon back!

If you execute 'MediaMonkey (non-skinned).exe' then there's no skin.
Maybe it's that what you're searching for.

BTW I would like a skin(-engine) like MM2 too.
For me it takes too long to restore MM from minimized mode and I can see how the Application is painted step by step - not nice.

Change skin = problem solved.

This is a no-issue, as aesthetics always are invdividual.

That may be and I don't blame people liking the new theme. But I don't know if you knew but there are rules to be followed even in aesthetics ... just imagine a red background and a green text -- who'd like that?

And how isn't an orange color suiting?

I know how to use colors, and thats why I don't compliment my skin with a dark blue color. Glided has got many rules followed, among them are Windows Vista-aesthetics. If you can enlighten me what color-use I have done wrong, great. If not, use another skin which suits your taste. Constructive critisism is good, but what you are coming with ain't.

Have a good one.

Morten, please calm down.
Nobody said your Skin is bad or false or whatever.
It's only that the appearance of MediaMonkey changed so much.

If he thinks 2.5.5 is so perfect, why does he use 3.0 then? If he wants a 2.5 looking skin in MM3.0, why isn't this in the Wishlist-section? I fail to see value of this thread in the Beta Testing forum.

Sorry.

nap time morton. nap time.

remember i said some of your colors work better on the micro player then on the main player so something is up with color in the skin. it might not be your scheme but just might be the engine. since there are already known troubles with the skinning engine doing some things in the skins that are made
maybe the color code was mess'ed up in the engine.

but it also might be they have a different monitor issue then i have. some older then mine are still in use and they might not have all the updated color drivers for them. or their manufactures might not have updated their drivers.

so this guest is just another one that has trouble with some color schemes thats all.

they also might be on win2 k or some other os then winxp and you have vista. so the color scheme might have changed tons between their os and yours. micorsoft did change the colors in xp from win 9x so that is what i am saying might have caused some troubles.

i had a monitor other then this one that would not show black as black, but when i used black on it i would get black, but the code was not black on others computers it was the dark gray.

so there are errors in some systems that can cause color errors.
no big deal. remember the saying leo laport use to say on his tv show. " if they would make these computers easier to use there would be no errors, so its not your fault its the computers "

your a moderator now so don't lose your cool it don't look good for a mod to lose their cool 8)

as for them wanting an mm 2 skin in mm 3.
then they can go to the wiki and see how to make one with
my lesson or on the same page get the tempelte peke did
to make the mm 2 skins work in mm 3.

peke's templete makes them the whole way across the screen
my way makes them just the same size ratio as in mm 2.

either will work, pekes will work with out much trouble.
my way needs some work arounds to fix the skin engine's error for now until they get the mm 3 working.

so there are choices to have the old style of skin.

I can see that I overreacted, but this isn't the first time I have been critisized for making a skin for MediaMonkey - and yes, I'm all for constructive critisism. I am NOT an official moderator at the forum, I only have that status in the Artwork-section because I need it. So I am not any more official in my statements, and I am still a human being in my expression.

What really did me a bit frustrated was "where is the downgrade"-button where I thought he meant downgrade to 2.5 and it's looks. I'm sorry for misinterpreting that part.

And yes, this should still be in the wishlist section as it is a request and not a bug.

I dont think he was criticizing you Morten... I think he's just looking for the simplistic look that MediaMonkey2 did so well -WHILE- looking nice. Take iTunes for example, it's a very 'basic' skin, but it looks nice, it's smooth and easy on the eyes. MM2 was like that (smooth and easy on the eyes) only it had two things (visually) that blew iTunes out of the water: 1). Skins 2). Movable objects. This allowed everyone to tailor it to their own taste while following the K.I.S.S. principle.

Great reply btw.

I realize now that he was wanting a more clean look, but then he should ask in either the Artwork forum for a skin (yes, it's still possible to make MM look like 2.5) or the Wishlist section.

Now it is where it belongs.

I changed topic to be more descriptive If Original poster wants it back I'l change it back. Also Shadow is left in Beta forum so it will be still visible there.

I like MM3 skin better than 2.5.X. In beta 1 we have a "square" miniplayer, which I prefer over the beta 2 skin, but the button for the 'now playing' windows was missing. Now we have it.

I believe we will be able to get a "consensus" someday. There are still things in the artwork department I would like differently. But I would better save them for later (have some bugs to report...).

I've also missed a clean looking skin.
And if everything goes as it should, we will have (imo) a very clean and user friendly skin in not too long time.

We need to remove the plottery- and very-advanced-stamp i think MM has. With that I mean that everyone should be attracted to use MM, not only organize nerds like most of the users are today. If we could make an option(i.e. a skin) to make MM remind a little of the super easy userinterface that iTunes have, I think MM would attract a wider audience.

But the current skin engine lacks some features that would make it more user friendly. The dev team is well aware of this and hopefully we'll see it coming short after 3.0 is released.

Please give your thoughts on how you want a MM skin to look like!
