WebMonkey R10 - 2006/04/07

Post by Lowlander »

What is WebMonkey
WebMonkey is a pre-build website that will put your music collection online for others to see. It allows to browse your collection, listen to songs, download songs and view some statistics. You will need a webserver where you can host ASP pages and a MSAccess DB.

It is written in ASP and uses HTML, XHTML, CSS and JavaScript.

New version looks pretty good. One thing though. I use WinAmp for my m3u files and when I try and play via WinAmp I get an error [resolving hostname]. I played around with gettrack.asp and it appears to have something to do with checking the login status. If I comment out the include for chkloginstatus.asp, it works fine. Windows Media Player works fine. Any ideas?

I need to check that out, I assume that the problem has to do with the session variable. I will need to see what the best solution is. There is probably no way to check login status on playlists to see if a user has rights to play the music.
I think that the only option might be to put the username in the querystring and verify if user has access rights to playlists.

Any comments on this are welcome.

Since I'm using WinAmp, it's probably not going to see the same Session variables. I'm guessing the only way for this to work, would probably be the global.asa to keep the session going and somehow realize that it's the same session. I was hoping that by checking "Remeber Me" it would work as well. Maybe that's where the answer lies? Is the chkloginstatus.asp dealing with the cookie properly?

I'll need to look into this as currently a combination of session and cookie is used. The question is if WinAmp can get to the cookie as I believe that the cookies belong to IE (maybe WMP reads them?).

Little bug- If you turn on Downloads and Personal Playlists and the Artist/Title combination is a little long, you get wrapping on the first column (with the icons). If you remove the non-breaking space after the Playlist icon, the wrapping stops. You appear to be adding the nbsp after each icon. I think it should only be added if there is going to be another icon (in each If playlist = 0 then or if download = 0 then add the nbsp).

I've also got another feature request. I'm using WebMonkey from a PC attached to my TV which doesn't have the greatest resolution. I'm working on a skin with larger buttons and fonts, but the problem is that if I select a skin, it sticks for everyone. Would it be possible to have a default skin and allow the user to choose the skin on the login page and save that in a cookie?

Skin chooser at login will be in the next release. I added the feature today. The problem will be the buttons. Currently the size of the toolbars is done in settings, not in the skins. Whenever you have the skin ready you can send it if you want it tested by me or included in WebMonkey.

Please make note that skins change in nearly every release and that in release 10 the mediamonkey and default skin contain bugs.

In which view do you get wrapping (track/album listing)? Which browser and what version are you using?

Cool about the next version and the skins. I saw that the buttons are hard coded for size. Could you get away with not specifying the size, that way you could change the size of of the images and have it update the layout?

I was referring to the track listing when Download and User Playlist is enabled. You end up with a nbsp after each button. There is no reason for the nbsp after the playlist button. I use primarily IE on XP.

I'd prefer to keep size defined with images. This is just a better coding practice. So I'll look into an elegant solution.

Yes, I send a PM to thank you a lot.

I still need to look into the progress script. My main concern for R11 is to give you more options with skins.
